Memorial Day Speeches:
Excerpt from Speech given by Jennifer Syme at the Ohio Western Reserve Cemetery on Memorial Day:
“Many people today are heard saying “I support our troops”. I have starting asking them “how”? How do you support our troops? Have you gone to a local family support meeting and thanked the
soldiers’ family for their sacrifices? Have you sent anything to our soldiers, such as magazines, or cookies, I’ve heard G.S. cookies are very popular by the way; how about phone cards, greeting cards, or thank you notes? What have you actually done to support the troops? Many people have only given lip service. Supporting the troops also includes supporting their mission; this concept seems to be misunderstood by many. One cannot say they support our soldiers and yet not support what they are doing, their mission. So today I leave you with this challenge, support our troops as they fight each and every day for our God-given freedoms, freedoms that are so often taken for granted by us. Support our comrades with actions, not merely words.”

Excerpt from speech given by Sharon Kiesel at the Chatham VFW on Memorial Day)
“Today we remember all those who have paid the ultimate price)
A. The Christian Bible says in John 15:13 – “There can be no greater love than that of one who lays down his life for another.”
B. One does not have to serve in military to preserve our way of life.
C. That is why we remember those laid to rest who rode tractors in our scorching fields, mended worn knees of jeans, and lovingly tucked us in at night with a story & a prayer.
D. We are blessed and loved, knowing that others who came before us left such a legacy of dreams, sweat, tears and joys.
E. People are risking their lives every day to cross treacherous borders to get into this wonderful country. We cannot afford to take for granted the many blessings we have as a nation.
F. Nor can we forget those who gave their lives in defense of this country and the freedoms we hold so dearly.”
