Filming Of The Hines Farm Blues Club Documentary

The Hines Farm Blues Club Documentary Film

While researching and writing my book on the Hines Farm Blues Club titled "I'll Take You There: An Oral and Photographic History of the Hines Farm Blues Club", I had always dreamed of taking the project to another level, particularly to documentary film form. In January of 2002, I got a call from PBS producer Marlene Harris Taylor with WBGU TV, inquiring whether or not I would be interested in teaming up to create a documentary on one of America's legendary blues clubs. From January 2002 to January 2003, we worked together and co-produced, co-directed and co-wrote an hour long documentary film on the Hines Farm Blues Club, interviewing such blues dignitaries as B.B. King, Bobby "Blue" Bland, the late John Lee Hooker and regional blues players Art and Roman Griswold, Blind Bobby Smith, the late Big Jack Reynolds and many others. In 2003, the dream of that film became a reality with the airing of the Hines Farm Blues Club documentary on WBGU-PBS in February. The film has been well received nationally and we are hoping for broader distribution of the film through PBS affiliates nationwide.
