The blue-eyed monks
On an island in the Pacific there live some monks. Almost all are brown-eyed, only a few unhappy
ones are blue-eyed. Unhappy, because on this island blue is considered to be an ugly color.
If someone ever would find out that he is blue-eyed, he would commit suicide in the following
night.
However, there are no mirrors on the island and the monks never talk about their eyes.
So noone will ever know his own eye-color.
But one day a tourist visits the island, and before leaving he speaks out a fatal sentence:
"I have never seen so beautiful blue eyes like on this island."
Now the question is: What will happen on the island?
Consider that now all monks definitely know that blue eyes exist on their island. And all what
they will do now is thinking the whole day about just one thing: What is my own eye-color?
I need a hint.
I want to see the solution.
