This was an unexpected
summer vacation for Fin and I because we both realized that we had vacation
days we needed to use up before the end of the fiscal year (ie the next
week, so it was an impromptu vacation).
We had hoped to go
camping in NY but those plans fell thru so we headed to Maryland to visit
Fin's newly-pregnant sister & brother-in-law, and Sonya &Dennis
(Sonya is the fabulous woman that married Fin & I). While there, we
experience Hon fest, a purely Baltimore tradition celebrating the 1950's
working woman (poofy skirts and beehives) & all things Baltimore (for
instance their accent which pronounces Baltimore as "Balmer").
After Maryland we
headed south (passing thru Fayetteville, NC my birthplace) to Charleston,
SC where our friend Julie is completing her grad degree. This was as far
south as Fin had ever been so he was unused to the humidity. Luckily the
weather remained reasonably fair and cool. Visiting downtown Charleston's
ex-slave markets (now regular jewelry et all markets) was interesting.
I got to see my first spanish moss.
