Watkins Glen, New York, 2002

We discovered Watkins Glen State Park in 2000 when we went camping with a bunch of friends (Lisa D., Mary Alfson, and Guffy). We had been driving around the fingerlakes region and found it, it was a free park so we went in. The cascading waterfalls, ledges, and pools of water were GORGEOUS. In 2002 we tried to get another group together to camp at Watkins Glen but it fell through, Fin and I were the only ones that could make it.

The time to ourselves was kind of nice, though going during a major weekend (I think it was labor day) wasn't the best plan, as everyone else was there with their barking dogs and screaming kids. Still, the waterfalls were gorgeous and good exercise climbing up/down the steps. I proved to Fin that I could build a fire (he was certain I was inept in this department) and we had PB&J sandwiches, homemade refriend beans with chips and some local produce if memory serves. Camping food is the best (makes you feel rugged ;O).
