Sa Bom Nim Joseph Poppo began his Moo Duk Kwan training in September of 1984 in Monticello, New York. He started teaching under his instructor in the summer 1988 in Liberty, New York. Sa Bom Nim Poppo received Cho Dan in the fall of 1988, Kyo Sa in the fall 1989 and his E Dan in the fall of 1990. Sa Bom Nim Poppo opened the Moo Duk Kwan Academy in August of 1991. He received Sam Dan in the fall of 1993; and Sa Bom as well as Sa Dan in the fall of 1998. His instructor is Sa Bom Nim Jere Klien. Sa Bom Nim Poppo's goal for the Moo Duk Kwan Academy was for the school to transcend his life span. The family of Dans in the Moo Duk Kwan Academy has grown strong thanks to the efforts of Sa Bom Nim Poppo. Another goal of Sa Bom Nim Poppo's is that he wants the Moo Duk Kwan Academy to be a safe house for traditional Moo Duk Kwan training.
