1.11.2 Non-finite clause as extraposed subject

Rule: An extraposed non-finite clause requires an active verb.

Examples of errors:

(1) It must be tried to find him.
(2) It was suggested to go ahead with the project.

*to go ahead with the project

that we/he, etc. should) go ahead with the project

Most verbs do not allow extraposition of an infinitive subject in the passive, although an extraposed finite clause is acceptable, e.g.:

Decide is an exception to this rule:

It was decided to go ahead with the project
