Day 3, Tuesday
Today, we ventured onwards to the site of that famous song - to Ipanema. Unfortunately, with it being an overcast day and us not bringing nice cameras, today's photography was less that perfect, but who's complaining when you've just come from cold and windy and just plain boo Washington, DC?
Just another reason for Bruce and Jon
to flex for us.
Flavia and Alex chillin' in Ipanema.
As
we walked around the area surrounding the beach, we wandered to the beach head
where the wind was whipping... so we took the opportunity to compare chest
hair. Guess who won.
Day 4, Wednesday
This was an interesting day. We spent the entire time walking around the city and seeing the sights (as the weather was not quite cooperating with us). We saw most everything, took a boat to Nitteroi, and were back in the church by our "curfew" at 10:00 PM... what a chill night!
"Do I make you horny baby, do
I?"
I don't think any quote I put here will be as funny as the picture itself.
This enormous building is the Catholic Cathedral there - HUGE concrete structure
completely open to the outside with four ENORMOUS stained glass windows (one
directly behind us). Almost seems like the stepped pyramid of Djoser (Old
Kingdom Egyptian) in Saqqara (c. 2681-2662 BCE) or the Treasury of Atreus
(beehive tomb) in Mycenae, Greece (c. 1300-1200 BCE). Ok, enough art
history for now.
Micah just chillin', enjoying the boat ride to Nitteroi.
I'm not sure what Flavia is doing here - posing for Alex, no doubt.
Everyone back at the church that night.
Day 5, Thursday
Thursday was quite a busy day... after hanging out on Ipanema for a while, we ended up splitting up in efforts to be more productive. Although our productivity did not really increase, we did manage to hang out in the Meridian Hotel, go to the outside of the club "Help" (and Help is what anyone needs who enters!), browse through a cool bazaar, and have a close call or two (details to be omitted).
A better day on Ipanema, drinking the nectar of the trees - coconuts!
Would a web page of mine be complete without Micah juggling something? Of
course, here it happens to be a coconut, sunscreen and a Teva, but hey, who's
counting?
Beach football with a coconut. Touchdown!!!!
The Meridian Hotel. I can verify that their plumbing works on the top
floor. But in regards to the picture, this is a typical costume worn in
the Sambodoromo; amazing, isn't it!?
As artistic as I can get with Micah's Advantix camera. The streets of Rio
are alive at night - with culture, music, food and people. How
incredible!!
