Read Genesis 3
In the last lesson Adam disobeyed God and ate the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Adam and Eve were hiding from God because they realized they were naked.God asked them who told them they were naked. He already knew but He wanted Adam to confess. Adam and Eve confessed their sin. Adam tried to place the blame on Eve and Eve placed the blame on the serpent.
God told the serpent that for its role in the sin of Adam it would crawl on its belly forever. God would also place a natural enmity between the woman and the serpent. Her seed would bruise the serpent’s head and he would bruise His heel. This is the first prophecy in the Bible about Christ, given nearly two thousand years before the birth of Christ. Christ, as the offspring of a woman, would deliver a death blow to the serpent which was Satan. Eve was told that she would have pain in childbirth. This was passed on to all women who have children
It was Adam who is credited with the major consequences of the fall. The serpent told Eve that they would not surely die. Eve believed the serpent and Adam followed along. They failed to understand spiritual matters. Adam died spiritually and passed his spiritual death along to every other man that ever did, does, and ever will live. This spiritual death for Adam passed a sin nature onto every other human. We are born to sin and cannot help or avoid doing so. We are not held responsible for Adam’s sin but the propensity to sin is passed on to us. The Apostle Paul said in Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God". Due to Adam’s sin every man that ever lived is under the penalty of death due to sin. We can rejoice though that God has provided Jesus to save us all by His death on the cross. God requires a blood sacrifice for sin. He showed this to Adam by killing animals to make clothes for him and Eve to wear. The blood of those animals was a shadow of the blood of Christ which would be shed for the sins of the world. Throughout the remainder of Old Testament history animals would be killed as sacrifices for sin. Their death would be part of God’s divine plan to save all men.
