Read Genesis Chapter 7
Noah finished the ark and God told him to take two of every unclean animal and seven pairs of every clean animal into the ark for in seven days He would make it start to rain. Noah took the animals in as God had commanded him to. The Bible does not explain to us how Noah found the animals but it’s probably a safe guess that God sent them to Noah. When the time was up God put Noah and his family in the ark and closed the door. Noah had three sons. Their names were Ham, Japheth, and Shem. Imagine the expression on the people’s faces when the massive, extremely heavy door began to close. His sons and their wives all went on the ark with him.
The flood waters came upon the face of the earth. It rained and rained. God had told Noah He was going to make it rain for forty days and forty nights and that is exactly what he did. The Bible does not specifically say so but it is probably a safe guess to say it was torrential rain world wide and it continued throughout the forty day and forty night period. Genesis 7:20 says "Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered. Fifteen cubits is about twenty - two and one-half feet. Imagine that much water on the face of the entire planet!
God didn’t forget about Noah and soon the ark came to rest on Mount Ararat. To make sure the waters had receded Noah turned a raven loose through the window. The raven did not find a place to rest but being a strong bird it continued flying until the waters dried up. Noah waited a week and turned a dove loose. The dove soon returned having found no place to land. It did however have a branch in its claw. Noah waited yet another seven days and turned another dove loose. This time it did not return. They could leave the ark at last. Once he was off the ark Noah built an alter and made a sacrifice to God.
