may 2005 • molly's cast goes up to her thigh.

it was thursday may 19th, molly had just finished an important meeting at her school with the director, the school doctor and her teacher. she'd been given the approval to return to school full-time (she'd been going just in the mornings since february), something she'd really been looking forward to. just the day before, on may 18th, molly'd been at the hospital for her mri; the results were all clear. she'd finished her rehabilitation and physical therapy two weeks before, at the end of april. it looked like molly was about to 'get her life back.'

she went to the park with her sister (little ruby) and our nanny (big ruby) and was playing on raised platform near the slide and decided to hang from the monkey-bar. her arms aren't quite strong enough to hold her own weight, and she dropped to the ground and fell on her leg. big ruby knew something wasn't right and brought her home.

molly was a good sport about the entire thing. she hardly cried on the way to the hospital. she was brave during all the x-rays and when they set her leg in the cast. she rarely complains, even though she's in a cast up to her thighs, relegated to the couch, the chair, the floor, the bed or the stroller.

it's no surprise that molly has kept her poise throughout. compared to what we went through last winter, this was nothing - just a tiny set-back. maybe molly wasn't quite ready to stand on her own two feet just yet. but we hope that by the time the cast comes off (sometime in early to mid july) she'll be ready to stay healthy (and in one piece) and enjoy the summer running around wildly with her sister ruby.
