Facts for the Liver
Information on the Liver
The liver, a dark reddish-brown organ, is located on the right side of the body, below the diaphragm. The liver is an extremely important organ and performs a variety of functions. One of its primary jobs is to store energy in a form called glycogen, which is made from a sugar called glucose. Another important function of the liver is the production of bile. Bile leaves the liver through a network of ducts and is transported to the gallbladder, where it is stored. The liver produces important proteins for the blood. One of the most important roles that the liver plays, is that it detoxifies and removes many poisons from the blood. These neutralized toxins are eventually eliminated with the feces.
