The rectum is a short tube that connects the large intestine to the anus

Feces collect here until nerve impulses relax the muscles in your anus. (This is the time when you realize you have to go to the bathroom.)

Information on the Rectum

The rectum is a short, muscular tube which connects the lowest part of the large intestine to the anus. Feces collect in the rectum until pressure on the rectal walls cause nerve impulses to pass to the brain and the feces is then sent to the anus.
