Frodo had a much less peacefull arrival in Rivendell. In fact, if I remember correctly he barely made it. As Frodo tried to make it to Rivendell, he was being chased by the the Black Riders, the Nazgul. At the end of the journey they almost caught him at the Ford of Rivendell. Luckily Glorfindel, an elvenlord sent by Elrond, had given his horse to Frodo to ride on. The horse crossed the Ford with amazing speed, leaving the nine Black Riders on the other bank. As they tried to cross they were flooded away by waves that looked like white riders, a magic touch added by Gandalf. Frodo lost his consciousness, however, and woke up in the House of Elrond, where he regained his strength."
The Council of Elrond was one of the most important events in the history of Middle-Earth. It was during this meeting that all enemies of Sauron gathered to share knowledge and to come up with a plan to destroy the One Ring and the power of Sauron. It was during this meeting that The Fellowship of the Ring was formed. This is how Elrond put it in words: "The Company of the Ring shall be Nine; and the Nine Walkers shall be set against the Nine Riders that are evil. With you and your faithful servant, Gandalf will go; for this shall be his great task, and maybe the end of his labours. For the rest, they shall represent the other Free Peoples of the World: Elves, Dwarves and Men. Legolas shall be for the Elves; and Gimli son of Gloin for the Dwarves. For men you shall have Aragorn son of Arathorn, for the Ring of Isildur concerns him closely..."
