Meadow Way kicked off the new campaign with the visit to Sloughbottom Park of last season's Champions Wroxham Road. Following last seasons epic encounter in the cup which saw Meadow Way eventually beaten on penalties this game always promised to be something special, with Wroxham Rd looking to continue where they had left off last season and Meadow Way out to level the score. Gone was the familiar Blue and Black stripes worn by Meadow Way over the past four seasons and in their place the Silver and Black Nike kit was given it's first league appearance. As well as the new kit Meadow Way fielded a new look back 5 for this game with a league debut to new goalkeeper Nick Perks, and a first start at left back for Steve Miller following on from his impressive preseason form. Saul Penfold also came into the heart of the defence to deputise for the absent John East and injured Paul Nice (Hernia).
The game kicked off with hopes running high but within 5 minutes Meadow Way were brought down to earth when a nothing ball was badly defended and a Wroxham Rd forward nipped in to chip over Nick Perks in goal. Things didn't get much better from there on and 2 minutes later a free kick on the left produced Wroxham Rd second goal, a header at the far post. This proved the incentive Meadow Way needed and over the next 10 - 15 minutes the game levelled out and Meadow Way began to take more control. This control finally paid off when a throw in was controlled and struck home by Keith Halley to make the score 2 - 1. Meadow Way continued to press on but were unable to break the Wroxham Rd back four.
After the break the game continued as it had left off in the first half with Meadow Way asking all the questions but the back four of Wroxham Rd held on until the final whistle to record a 2 - 1 win.
