DID YOU KNOW? That Bifocal glasses were invented by Bejamin Franklin. Records of spectacles go far back into ancient times. Roger Bacon included information about spectacles in his book "Opus Majus", published in A.D. 1268. The Chinese are said to have invented glasses long before they come into use in Europe. According to legend, they were used as early as 500 B.C. Marco Polo reported that he saw many Chinese wearing glasses in China about A.D. 1275. In the middle ages, glasses were worn as a fashionable accessory, usually doing harm to the wearer's eyes. |
