GUARDIAN BOND OF JOHN McCORD

KNOW ALL MEN by these presents, that we, John McCord and Mile M. Bortwick, are held and firmly bound unto Jacobe Alexander, Esquire, and the rest of the Justices assigned to keep the peace for Mecklenburg county, in the just and full sum of Three Thousand Five Hundred pounds, current money of the said state, to be paid to the said Jacobe Alexander, or their successors: To the which payment will and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors and administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals and dated this Fifteenth day of November Anno Domini 1823.
Whereas the above bounden John McCord hath been this day; by the worshipful Court of said county, appointed Guardian to John Means, Mary. William, Susannah (Susan), and Charles Means orphans of John Means, deceased:
Now the Condition of the above Obligation is such, that if the said John McCord Guardian as aforesaid, shall well and truly discharge his said guardianship, by taking care of and improving all the estate belonging to the said orphans, and shall also settle his guardianship accounts with the court of said county, as is required by law, and that he will deliver up to the said orphans as aforesaid, when he shall attain lawful age, all such estate as he ought of right to be possessed of, or sooner if required, agreeably to the true intent and meaning of the act of the General Assembly in such case made and provided, then this obligation to be void – otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.
