North Elmsley township, Lanark county, 1851 Census Index and Notes

The information in my indexes was transcribed in abbreviated form, without verification, for personal use, from microfilm copies of original records. Accordingly the data is incomplete and, in the absence of verification, there is a definite, but unknown, error level. My purpose in creating the indexes is to enable users to quickly and conveniently locate particular items in the original records in order that they may have a full and accurate record. I am happy to share the indexes but each person who uses them must accept the responsibility for confirming, from original sources, the information used.

The 1851 census of North Elmsley township has been selected for indexing because of the unusual quality of the work performed in Division 1 by the enumerator, Robinson Harper, a resident of that division. He has identified the area encompassed by Division 1 as "........ Lots number one to fifteen in all the concessions (where boundaries of said Township extend to these numbers commencing at 4th Concession) .....". As a consequence, a considerable part of the town of Smiths Falls is included in Division 1.

As to Division 1,

Division 2 of the 1851 census was produced in conventional form.
