Round trip through VA
And so the travel continues. I got back from WI last Friday night. I was so late and tired I didn’t even go out (heard the Canes game was fun). I was also on the phone again trying to get my DSL fixed. When I last left you I told you that many hours of help desk time gets you a direct line of contact. Apparently I got bumped up to ‘first class’ idiot because they also sent me a new modem. No surprise, it still didn’t work.
I had too much to do Saturday to leave on time but eventually made it back to my family in VA for the weekend. I got to see my grandmother (her bday), my brother and his fam, my younger sister and husband and my folks. I missed my older sister and fam (also her bday), which sucked. Overall a good trip for being so quick.
I got to go through Hampton to see them because I had to go up to Williamsburg for work. Nice brand new facility there and well-designed office and factory space (yes Kris they apparently do manufacture stuff there – I didn’t know either). I did a bunch of email, got a nice tour and had a 2hr meeting. Pretty efficient actually. I got a lot of good info, met up with my boss and got to leave. The weather was great but I was still pretty tired.
Having a little time before the ‘game’ (you know, the game in which one good team plays against the refs and Duke wins. Of course this wasn’t as bad the Duke-Maryland game, for which I still think there should be a formal investigation), I figured I try the computer stuff again. After another 3 hours you get to hear, "well, I honestly don’t have a clue now." This is NOT comforting. I have replaced the network interface card, the cable and the modem. I have downloaded and reinstalled updated drivers, software, etc. We have gone over all possible settings. Things had improved by this point even though I still couldn’t connect. Which did in fact show that the old modem was bad (which of course they claimed would be virtually impossible – it’s like they don’t know who they’re dealing with).
So out of desperation the guy is like, "hold on, let me call your phone company to see if they did anything." And wouldn’t you know it, somehow I’ve managed to drag the phone company in to this, because whatever they did actually fixed it. That can’t be good. But what I do know is my DSL was back up and running last night and I eventually made it to the game.
It’s like every step of my life is uphill. And if I think that’s bad now, just wait til I trip!
