Quick Weekend Update

Man am I fat and lazy.

"Shut up, you bald, fat fuck!" dammit that was funny. That line from "Snatch", which I finally got to see this weekend. Which I’m still amazed I didn’t fall asleep through it. I just can’t seem to not be tired lately.

Of course it didn’t help that I had to be out at Lake Benson at 7:30am Sat morning. Whew. But that was fun and for a worthy cause. We did the Pet Trek, which is a dog-walk and games for charity. About 120 people signed up their dogs and there were a lot of fun dogs to see. There were also rescue groups and shelters represented out there and a few adoptions actually took place (woohoo).

I myself was almost tempted to take 2 dogs home. One was a 6mo old puppy – a brindled boxer/pit bull mix, appropriately named Tigger. This dog was actually on site and I got to play with him. The other was a medium-to-large German Shepherd 5yr old female. This dog was not there (none of the GS Rescue dogs were) but was also appropriately named: Traeh (heart spelled backwards), as she had a heart condition, which while not debilitating is actual fatal. Ie, the dog will simply not wake up one morning but the timing is unknown but expected to be a later life trigger.

However, I was good and mature and knew damn well I couldn’t take care of either one at this time, so I didn’t torture myself by hanging around too long. Instead I decided to chase down a 10cent tiny plastic frisbee. Supposedly they were for the dogs, but frankly I didn’t see too many dogs playing with them. As such, seemed like someone should get some use out of them, so I did. Man that was tiring.

Well, we did raise a good bit of money and got to see a nice police dog as well. I was also volunteered to be the ‘criminal’ in a live action dog chase down, but fortunately the cop had more sense than to let that take place. This is even better because he had just finished telling us about how they train the dogs to attack. They always train to attack the right arm. "and Rex has actually had to attack/bite a few suspects during our time together. But the one trick he has never learned is to attack the right arm. I sure would never run from him, especially considering some of the places he HAS bitten people." Ouch.

I also got to waste money renting another movie. The movie itself, "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" was damn good, the waste came in because Chris already owned it and I didn’t realize it. Ugh. And then there was Sunday. As you know, a national holiday otherwise known as the start of football season. Woohoo!

Which for some of us (notably Skins, Cowboy, Steeler and Browns fans), might be a very long season. Ugh. Still, it’s football and it’s all good. What also makes the season long is the pregame crap. You have to get out to the sports bars early to get a table, which means you have to wait and hour for kickoff. So to kill time, you have 3 options: watch the pre-game with or without sound depending on your bar, explain football to any women who came with you (that don’t already know it of course), or do the Sunday crossword.

Having tried all 3 this past Sunday, I will now institute option 4 next Sunday, stabbing myself in the eye with any sharp object for an hour. Having experienced the Skins debacle, this option may well continue on through all of Sunday.

Hope yours was fun and in the great wisdom of everyone’s 2nd favorite gameshow host,
