Why Promos are Critical for Strip Club DJs

Promos are the little commercials that you'll put together to use between dancers promoting things like table dances, the food, upcoming events and so on. They serve a few different purposes.

While I give a lot of tips on dealing with stress in my book, Strip Club DJs, I want to talk about some of the issues that specifically face DJ's that have been around for a while. If you're just starting out, though, don't skip this part. You need to take this advice to heart as well and you'll save yourself a lot of headaches down the line.

First, they allow you to help the dancers sell more table dances. The more table dances, the more money the girls make and the bigger your tips. Second, promos help the club sell more alcohol, food, and merchandise and bring in more customers for special events. Finally, promos help you fill the gaps in between girls.

Almost every shift, you'll run into a situation where you've got to buy yourself some time. Maybe the girl that your about to announce has just finished a table dance and needs a minute to get dressed. Perhaps a girl has requested a last minute song change. Or a drink was spilled onstage and you need to fill a minute or two while someone cleans the stage. You have CD start skipping on you and you need time to change it out.

This sort of thing is going to happen to you all the time and nothing spoils a party in a club faster than dead air. Even a few seconds of silence can seem like an eternity on a busy Saturday night.

Having a strong repertoire of promos is going to help you fill those long gaps without embarrassing silences or forcing you to try out your new stand-up comedy routine.

How many promos do you need? At least a dozen, preferably more. You need promos for food, drink specials, table dances, tips for the bar and wait staff, lunch or happy hour specials, special events like golf tournaments, contests or amateur nights, club merchandise (t-shirts, caps, calendars, etc.), VIP memberships and so on.

Does your club have a sports bar? If so, promote it. Find out what games will be shown during your shift as well as upcoming games, fight nights or special events.

Many DJ's don't bother with developing good promos. The DJ's that don't sound pretty monotonous. If you can help the club sell more food, sell more drinks, more t-shirts and so on, you're going to find yourself moving into the better clubs and working the best shifts.

If you can help dancers do more table dances, you're going to get better tips. And when you audition at a new club, if you can pull off a good promo during your audition using a flyer you picked up from a table or a menu item, the managers are going to notice you and want to hire you.
