Chapter Eight: Under the Bed

Their weapons were secure in their hands and they were ready to charge down the room. The four vampire hunters hadn't heard from Baptista, and it was now sunset. They just assumed she was dead in her task. Now only to have two vampires to kill, this would be a lot easier. Though they knew not to underestimate Lance and to know some of them may not come back alive.

They marched their way up the to his room. Two went from the inside and the other two went from the outside. Eric was one on the outside, and he couldn't believe the sight he saw when he gradually looked into the window. There was Denise, conversing with the monster he so hated. He could tell that she had become one of their kind. She was a demon, and she along with the others had taken an oath that if they were ever transformed that they would be taken down. He would have to kill her; it would be what she wanted.

From inside the bathroom moments later, Baptista and Michael heard the sounds of weapons being fired and struggle. She jumped away from the door; she wasn't concerned about Michael anymore. Besides she knew that he wouldn't hurt her.

None of the yells sounded like her friends. She knew who it was, it was the vampire hunters, and it didn't sound like they were winning. Not after she heard the amused laugh from Lance. Then there was silence.

"Do you think he slaughtered them all?" She asked looking at Michael.

"Who knows." He said, as he put his arm around her.

She went to back away, but he was too strong for her to move.

"I'm not going to hurt you. Besides I don't think we'll be living too long to protest. Let me be close to you while I can." His words were perfectly pure. He meant it.

Lance looked over at Denise's shocked expression. She was completely and utterly mortified seeing her three friends ripped into pieces on the floor before her. Eric had gotten away only because he was able to slip out the window in time.

"Some vampire hunters." Lance scoffed.

"Well, we're not used to going up against a vampire as powerful as you are." She said staring at the ground in pain.

"Practice makes perfect my dear. I wish you'd stay alive long enough to know that. But you're too much of a risk to keep alive. I'm glad you want to die."

She furiously growled and pounced on Lance, trying to claw whatever she could with her fingernails. Then she even tried to bite him. He was amused while he was holding her just an inch from contact with him. Then he got bored and pushed her off him.

"Come on, we have to go. I'm sure Aloysia and her friends will be looking for Baptista soon. We can't be here; there would be too many witnesses. Go get them, bind them." Lance instructed as he got to his feet.

Even though she didn't want to, all she saw was vengeance in her eyes, she did what he asked. When the door was opened both Michael and Baptista winced from the light. Baptista tried to run and escape, but Denise caught her just before she got out the door, held her down and bound her tight with rope.

Michael watched, he was afraid to move, thinking that Denise would hurt Baptista if he did. Then when she was done tying up Baptista she glared up to him, she pounced on him, wanting to kill him right there, but she was afraid of what Lance might do. Sure she wanted death, but he might torture her. So she tied him up tightly so he couldn't even think of moving.

Abivin raced to the hotel by foot after the five had parked the car. He saw police cars everywhere and they were taking out bodies. He looked among what ones he could, none he recognized. He raced to the side of a police officer.

"Was there a young girl among these people?" He asked, trying to keep his extremes to a minimum.

The officer shook his head no. "Why do you ask?"

Abivin made a quick lie. "My girlfriend was supposed to be staying here... but " He looked up to the hotel. "This is the wrong hotel... sorry officer."

Abivin ran to his four friends who had just as shocked faces as he did when he first saw the sight. He told them there was no girl among them, but all of them knew that this was Lance's work. Now that Lance was on the move, they had no idea where Baptista was.

"Ahem..." A voice said to them.

They all looked over to where the voice came from in the shadows. In them they could see the figure of a young woman. As she moved forward in the light, it revealed to be Denise. Her arms were crossed as she walked towards them.

"You're Aloysia aren't you?" She spied a dark eye at her. "Then you must be Abivin."

They didn't say a word for a minute; they were just glancing between each other.

"Yes, that's who we are. Who are you?" Abivin said stepping up.

"I'm Denise. Lance wants me to take you in this van over here where he's at --- with your friend, and if you come quickly she won't be hurt. At least not by him..." She said, still arms cross, and her look as well.

"How can we trust you?" Sam said with his deep voice soothing the situation a little with his strength in it.

Denise stepped back a little. "Look, I don't want to argue with you. I was just told to do this so I'm not tortured to death... even though that's what I want." She shook her head. "Just get in the goddamned van!"

They were beginning to bring attention; there was no use in arguing it out in the public. Especially with the police all over the place. But the police weren't their only concerns... they were being watched, by Eric. He had been listening intently on the whole conversation.

More vampire scum, he thought. He knew there were a lot of them in the city, but he didn't think they were all connected together in some way. And he didn't know that some weren't on the side of Lance. Maybe it would free their souls. That's the only thing he had just about right about vampires, he did in fact know they had souls. But still, they were demons from hell and they all needed to die.

The drive seemed forever. They took many turns and none of the five had any idea where they were at, not even Aloysia. Wherever they were going must have been a place of Lance's he must have recently gotten.

Baptista woke up, untied in a room with Michael. He was holding her close to him; he was all battered up. He must have tried to fight Lance, or Denise had a fit of rage on him, whichever he did not look good. He was healing up really, really slow. For a short moment she felt sorry for him. She knew at one time that he must have been a good man, but Lance corrupted him. She could see it, and it was getting to him. But she didn't think that he'd ever cross over to the side of good permanently.

"Where are we?" She said softly.

He jolted and looked down at her and smiled. "In another one of Lance's hiding places. He's setting up a trap for Aloysia and her friends."

"This can't be happening..." She said even softer, but Michael heard.

"I have to say I'm sorry my pet, I never meant for this to happen. I just wanted to take you away for myself, and build my own empire...and to destroy Lance." He said hesitantly. "I know it's selfish, but each man for himself you know."

She didn't say anything. She was trying to plan anyway she could possibly save her and her friends. Even if she couldn't kill Lance tonight. She had to save her friends from dying because of her.

The van pulled up the driveway and Denise got out without saying anything.

"I guess we follow her in..." Sam said getting out, preparing himself for anything.

The other soon followed. There was a nice modern house standing before them. Nothing like Lance's taste. Denise stood there by the open front door waiting for them to come up and enter. After they did she shut the door behind them, locking it and walked passed them into a room. They followed and that's where they found Lance. They couldn't believe he was alone. They knew that him himself couldn't take on all five of them. Especially Sam, Aloysia, and Abivin.

"Well, it's about time." Lance said. "Are you ready to be with me Aloysia?"

She backed up a step. "What do you mean? You know I'll never be with you again!"

"Ahem, Denise." He practically clapped his hand and she attacked Mark on the spot.

Sam grabbed Denise by a bunch of her braids and flung her across the room. It hurt but she came right back at Mark again. Now Gemma was helping Sam in his attempts to keep her off Mark. Her slashes and cuts went deep into Mark's white skin.

"Stop her Lance!" Aloysia screamed.

He clapped his hands again and she stopped. She sat down by the window, glaring at her reflection. She hated doing this for him, but it didn't really bother her that she was hurting the five, because they were vampires.

"What's the deal here? Why are you hurting my friends? Why won't you get it? I don't love you no more!" Aloysia screamed, tears almost ran down her cheeks. "Nothing in the world would make me go back to you!"

"Not even your friends? Not even Baptista?" One of his eyebrows raised. His green eyes gleamed with the excitement of just the suggestion of his ultimatum.

Sam and Gemma were helping up Mark. The wounds in his flesh were healing up, but he was having a little trouble standing up. They all looked over at Lance.

Abivin growled. "Where is she?"

"Oh, you calm down, and shut up. I'm not talking to you." He glared at Abivin. "It's your fault my Aloysia left me in the first place!" He looked over to Denise and clapped his hands.

As a dog to it's master she ran furiously towards Abivin obeying the command. Like she did Mark, she attacked him terribly. Sam and Gemma put down Mark and helped Aloysia try and get Denise off him. Her attack was more severe on Abivin than on Mark. Lance did the sign and Denise backed off.

"Denise, go get Baptista..." Lance said. "You might as well bring Michael as well. But no attacking either of them, not yet anyway."

"Let me guess." Aloysia said. "If I go back with you you'll set free my friends and Baptista. Then in the end you'll end up killing them sometime in the near future. So what's the use of making a deal with you?"

"She's right." Sam said. "I'd rather die then see Aloysia with you. Especially after what you've done to her."

Michael was almost healed. He wasn't hurting like he was before and he was able to move around. Then Denise burst through the doors, sending the two with shivers through all their bodies. Both were ready to battle, even though Baptista knew she didn't have any chance fighting her.

But as expected she moved beyond her comprehension, and Denise knew that Michael wouldn't go near in fear that she'd hurt Baptista. Denise just looked in the direction of the other room where he knew where Lance would be. He hung his head and walked out ahead and into the room.

"Michael, you might as well stand over with them boy." Lance said. "You're a betrayer like 'em all."

The five weren't surprised by the words Lance said. Though they were by the tired and timid expression on Michael's face. It was as if he felt total remorse for what he has done. Though they didn't trust it a bit, Michael was an incredible actor. He himself, was stunned by Abivin's condition. It was just as bad as he was just beaten by Denise.

A few more moments Denise came in with Baptista in her arms. She was kicking and screaming, but she went silent and her eyes grew large when she saw Abivin, she was released from Denise's grasp and ran over toward him.

"Oh my God, what happened to you?!" She said caressing his head in her hands, he let his battered face fall into them as if he couldn't hold up his head on his own.

"He got what he deserved my dear." Lance said.

It was now no mystery to Michael who Baptista was in love with. It was kind of obvious, but now he knew for sure. Such jealousy spiked through him, he almost went over and attacked Abivin himself. But now wasn't the time for petty jealousy, he had to make sure at least him and Baptista got out of there.

Baptista noticed Abivin had a knife inside his pocket on the inside of his duster coat. She grabbed it firmly in her hand. Abivin wanted to stop her because he knew what she was going to attempt, but he couldn't move, it hurt just to think. He was trying to concentrate on healing as fast as he could. But it wouldn't be fast enough to stop her.

She ran at Lance as fast and angry as she could, but before she could she stopped in her tracks. The window in the room burst open, glass splattering everywhere. Baptista ran towards Abivin, and wrapped her arms around him. She wasn't really frightened; she just wanted to protect him.

In came Eric fully prepared for his slaying. He fired his first arrow from his crossbow and hit Denise in the chest sending her across the room in pain. She laid there on the floor in pain, she ripped out the arrow to ensure her death.

He started firing off on Lance, while the other seven were running for their safety within rooms of the house. Sam and Mark carried Abivin and hid him underneath a bed; Baptista crawled under there with him. They told both of them not to move until one of them came to get them.

She looked over at him. "I'm so sorry Abivin. This is my fault." She said just above a whisper.

"It's not your fault. I know it." He said instantly thinking of Kasper and whoever else feeding her thoughts of this so-called destiny she had to kill Lance and Michael.

His face was looking so much better; he was almost healed up. She stared into his face, this might be the last time she would be ever be staring into his face like this again. She leaned in and kissed him like she had never kissed anyone before. When she pulled back she stared into his eyes once again. He was so stunned, but so happy, though he knew it might the last kiss like that they'd share.

They heard snarls and grunts coming from the other room. Many shots from the crossbow, then gunshots. Then a thump. One of them was dead now. No one knew if it were safe to move or not. They all waited, but silence only remained. Then still, in hiding they heard footsteps moving across the wooden floors.

"Shh..." Abivin said putting his index finger to his lips.

He slipped out from under the bed. Baptista tried to stop him, but he just gently pushed her back under the bed and told her to stay there. He kept himself low, and walked out of the room looking around. There he saw Denise and the vampire hunter Eric on the ground. That meant Lance was the one still alive. Then he heard someone walking up right behind him.  He turned around quickly to see it was Michael.

"Did you see Lance?" Abivin whispered.

Michael shook his head. "Where's Baptista?"

Abivin was not at all going to tell him where his woman was. "She's hiding. Let her stay that way until we find Lance."

The two turned around and both Denise and Eric were gone. Then they heard a big struggle off in the other room where Baptista was. Abivin without a second thought ran into the room, Michael close behind him.

All three of them, Lance, Denise and Eric were in there fighting amongst themselves violently. They were too busy to see him, so he ducked down into the hallway. Michael did the same.

"They're all in there..." Abivin said. "But so is Baptista... she's under the bed."

"What?!" Michael said, almost yelling. "Do they know she's in there?"

Abivin cautiously looking into the doorway and the three were still fighting; he could see her just under the bed. She was a bit scared, but she was staying still, and being as quiet as she could. He noticed she had his dagger in his hands, just in case she had to use it. She noticed him and almost screamed for help, but he held his finger to his lips and turned back to the hallway to Michael.

"No." He said, as Aloysia was creeping down the hallway.

Soon Sam, Gemma, and Mark followed. They were all in the hallway, listening to the sounds, the screams. As soon as any of them would come through the door they were going to kill them. If they didn't kill each other. Every so often they would check on Baptista, as she stayed there stunned under the bed.

Baptista held her eyes shut as hard as she held Abivin's dagger in her hands. She silently prayed for this to all end, and that her, her friends, would get out of this mess she made. Then she felt the feeling of someone under the bed with her, she looked over to her side and there was Heléna.

"Don't worry honey." Heléna said in the most calming voice she could.

Baptista wanted to say something, but Heléna stopped her by putting an icy white finger on her lips. Then a big smash came from inside the room. Someone was thrown out the window. Abivin looked in and saw that Denise was gone, and he looked over to the broken blood coated window.

"You will die demon for the crimes you have done!" Eric yelled, not even exhausted from the intense fighting.

"What the hell?" Lance said. "Why won't you die so you'll shut up?"

A splatter of blood, the gush of insides. Lance grabbed an arrow from the floor and impaled it into Eric's stomach. The haunting almost black eyes stood wide, and a gasp came from his mouth. Lance threw Eric's body to the ground with ease.

"Be brave Baptista..." Heléna whispered and disappeared.

The vampires in the hall waited quietly, the anticipation was killing them. They heard the sound of an engine quitting, then starting, and going off. Which confused them, had Denise survived and drove off?

"There you are!" Lance yelled, and pulled Baptista by the back of her neck from under the bed.

Without thinking Abivin ran into the room. "Put her down!" The others were soon to follow, to witness, and try to protect their friend.

Glass cracked as some dark figure came through the window. Lance turned around and met the end of a sword. He dropped Baptista to the ground, and grasped the sword in his stomach with pain. He began to pull it out when the figure came from the shadows and held Baptista up.

"Kill him!" She yelled.

Baptista without another thought jumped on Lance knocking him to the ground and stabbed at his chest unmercifully. Blood soaked her clothes and the floor around them deeply. Lance let out a gasp as he tried to fight her, hitting her very hard, almost breaking her bones. But his attempts got weaker and weaker with each blow she gave him. Even though he was now dead, she didn't stop stabbing him until Abivin came to her side and grasped her arms.

She threw the knife down and hugged him tight, and didn't want to let him go. Then she looked over to the woman standing before her with a simple smile on her face, picking up her sword and cleaning the vampire blood off of it.

"Holly, what are you doing here?" Baptista said letting go of her embrace with Abivin finally.

"Doesn't anyone listen to me?" She said complaining to the air. "You owe me work Baptista, and I wasn't going to let you die before that got done. After that, you are not my problem." She turned around and went to go out the window. "Oh yeah, that vampire girl she stole a car and drove off. Don't know if she's an enemy of yours, but just thought I'd let you know she's out there."

"Holly... thanks... I think..." Baptista said as Holly left, only to turn back and give the black crescent smile that she usually gave.

Abivin looked at Baptista, seeing her skin all red where Lance had hit her. "Are you okay?" He asked calling Sam to come over and check out her wounds.

She nodded her head. Sam looked at her intently, there was nothing that he could see that was wrong with her, but she was badly bruised and had some cuts. They were relieved to see that she was going to be okay.

Then they remembered Michael, they turned around and he was gone. Abivin picked up Baptista in his arms and carried her out. The van was gone, but there was another car in the driveway.

They broke into it, and Gemma hot-wired it and got it started. Even though they didn't know how to get home, it was a relief to get out of that place. It made them feel a little bit safer. Though, Michael and Denise were still out there, and right now Denise was definitely a bigger threat by the way she fought.

"Michael made Denise into a vampire, and she wants to punish him for it... she wants to kill me because he loves me." Baptista finally said. "She was one of those vampire hunters... she thinks all vampires are demons."

Even though Abivin had been holding her close, he seemed to be holding her closer now. Now Lance didn't seem that much of a threat after hearing this.

"We are definitely going to have to relocate..." Aloysia said. "We're going to have to move soon."

They all nodded in agreement.

"I have a place in England that should be safe." Sam said.

Days and nights had passed, they seemed safe from Denise and Michael. Michael probably went into hiding from Denise, he could probably sense that she was alive since he was her father, and Denise was probably trying to stalk down him.

Baptista finished her work for Holly, though she was a little off about how she had saved her, and why. But she was incredibly grateful. In her last painting for Holly she drew the Goddess figure of Hel, and made Frankie as the great woman. Because it was that night that had totally changed her life for the bad in the world in the vampire. Holly was impressed, and she liked the morbid side to it that it was Baptista's dead friend.

It was now the last day that the six would have to spend in the place of danger. Baptist was lying down next to Abivin. He had just finished drinking some blood. She stared at him intensely knowing the next thing she would ask would change her relationship with him completely.

"What?" He said curiously, though he was scared by her expression.

"I, I want you to make me a vampire." She said, then looked away from his eyes.

"What?! No. I can't!" He said raising her face back up to his. "You have no idea what you're asking."

"Yes, I do. I know I have to drink blood to survive, I won't be able to see the day anymore, and I'll live forever. But it's worth it if I have you, and the others." She fidgeted with her shirt. "Besides, I've learned now, in this world, I'm going to need to protect myself, more so than I thought when my life was somewhat normal."

"But what if your dreams go away after the transformation? What if I'm going to disrupt destiny? I don't know if I could do that. As much as I would want to be with you for eternity." He said making her drop her hands from his shirt, and grabbing them in his.

"It's a risk worth taking." She said and kissed him gently. "Please, make me a vampire."

"No. I can't make you go through the transformation. It's too painful, I can't see you in pain Baptista." He stroked her cheek, but he saw the look in her eyes. If he wasn't going to make her into one, she would go to someone else.

"Please." She asked one last time.

He took in a deep breath. "I hope we don't regret this..."

Abivin took Baptista's chin in his fingertips and tilted her neck to the side. He kissed where he was going to bite her, then seconds later his fangs met her flesh. The poke of his two top eyeteeth didn't really hurt, but his sucking of her blood did, but she didn't fight it. She let out little gasps of pain, but held him close to her.

Just before she was going to pass out, the secretion of the vampiric venom slid down his teeth and into her neck, through her body, beginning to transform her DNA. He released his teeth and stared at her, holding her gently as her body went into seizures.

Her human body was fighting the foreign bodies entering her. But the vampire genes were just too strong for her weak human sources. Like a virus it took control of everything within her, mind, body, and soul.

Abivin got up and went into the other room and got some more blood, plus he also got a knife from the kitchen. Then he laid down next to her. He cut his wrist and put it to her lips, letting his vampire blood blot violently into her mouth. Finishing her transformation by adding the ultimate vampiric DNA.

He held up his wrist away from her face so it healed. The hunger in her belly was intensing so much that she thought she was going to scream. Her angelic face paled from the new hunger. As a regular person's would if they hadn't eaten in a long time. He grabbed the blood he had gotten from the other room and poured it into a cup. Then he sat Baptista up and she drank it without even taking a breath.

It tasted so sweet, unlike anything she had ever tasted before. It was the best of the best, and now it didn't seem so disgusting as it did before when she was watching them. And now she could understand how it could turn someone over the edge like Lance, Michael, and Denise.

She felt the pointed teeth in her mouth with her tongue. They were so sharp, but they didn't cut her tongue, as they should have. Such a rush of energy rushed through her body. She felt like she could lift the world.

"Does it always feel like this?" She said looking over at Abivin amazed and lovingly. "I feel... more alive than ever!"

He smiled. "That feeling subsides after a while, though you're always as strong. Its not as much of a rush like it is now."

A soft tiredness came over her after the first blood rush she had as a vampire. She curled up with Abivin and gave him a couple of sweet kisses. She felt closer to him than ever. She was one of his kind now, and now she could be with him forever.

He fell asleep way before she did. Though the sweet tiredness remained in her, she couldn't sleep. For one she was so excited about being a vampire, and tonight at sunset they were off to England for a new life. She wondered what the others would think knowing that she was a vampire now.

Then something attracted her eye. In the corner of the room there was the titan woman with the roan eyes. She was smiling slightly, but didn't say a word. So, she still had her gift even though she was a vampire.

"Shakriella..." Baptista whispered.

"Yes?" She said softly, not moving from her spot.

"Is my mother proud of the things I do?" She said, trying not to cry thinking of her mom. She took in a deep breath and gazed into Shakriella's eyes.

Shakriella smiled sweetly. "Of course she is. She loves you. Don't worry, I can't tell you now, you're doing the right things."

Baptista was so happy to hear that, and most importantly her mother loved her. It now didn't matter that she didn't see her like she saw Shakriella and the others. It just mattered that she knew, and Shakriella wouldn't lie.

She curled up with Abivin and nuzzled her face into his neck. He peered an eye open and smiled, firming his grip around her. Then he kissed her gently on the forehead. She smiled as they both fell back asleep. Shakriella disappeared right after she knew they were off into slumber.

Now even in their sleep they were preparing for the events to come in their new life they were going to begin once the sun set. --- The End.
