Chapter Eleven: Blade of Mistrust

"We were wondering if you were going to go with us, Hestia, Skrina, and Shina today to go to the mall."

"Sounds nice, but I don't think so today. I still have a lot of work with Janine's Book of Shadows, and I want to be prepared when this Equal Evil comes." Jordan grabbed the book and put it on her lap.

"Alright." They both said waving as they went out the door.

There seemed something different between the two. The energy that surrounded them seemed scared or nervous about something. Jordan just shrugged the feeling off and opened Book of Shadows and began studying.

"Wow, I can't believe how serious Jordan is about this." Aimery said as they both went down the hallway.

"Well, she's got a lot of responsibility on her hands now. She's only 17, and she's the priestess of a great coven, and she is helping to protect us from this Equal Evil. We still have to find the Great Good that can defeat it. I think that it's a lot on our hands, but if she thinks she can do whatever she can, more power to her."

"All this 'witch stuff' is kinda intense babe. I mean I've had friends who were witches before, but now that I'm like involved now, it's so weird."

"Well, I'll teach you everything I know, and maybe you'll be into all this 'witch stuff' a little better. Maybe be initiated?"

They both laughed when they were going into the living room. They told the others that Jordan was planning to stay and study. They all got their things and left.

Later on in the day there was a knock on the door. Jordan got up and put her pants on and went over and opened it up. It was Leslie. "Hey Leslie, what's up?" Jordan asked, surprised he would be here, and where was her mom.

"Your mom and I are here, and the girls and Aimery left a note that they had gone and you were upstairs. Your mom is making lunch, and I'm sure you haven't eaten anything." Leslie was right, she had forgotten about eating anything all day long. She felt her stomach growl. Leslie laughed.

"I guess I was right huh?" He smiled.

"Yeah, tell my mom I'll be down in a bit. I'm gonna get cleaned up."

"Alright. B'Bye." He closed the door and Jordan could hear him walking down the hallway.

She locked her door and went into her bathroom. She undressed and took her shower. After about fifteen minutes she came out, with a bright pink towel wrapped around her body. Her flame hair clinging to her shoulders and parts of her back.  She wiped the steam off of the mirror to look at her reflection. She sighed, thinking of her two dreams. What was going to happen? She didn't know, she just hoped that she would figure it out before it would happen. She would have to! She wasn't going to let that happen to her mom, her friends… even Leslie. If Gram Tallulah would have been here even after what she had done, she still wouldn't let it happen to her either. She just felt so powerless right now, she didn't know what was going to happen, or if she could even stop it. All she could do is hope.

She got dressed, tied her hair up, and went downstairs. She could smell French fries in the oven, and smelled hot dogs in the microwave. She walked into the kitchen and Vera and Leslie were kissing.

"Um…" She said, covering her eyes, then looking off to the side.

Leslie and Vera blushed, then laughed.

"Sorry 'bout that hun." Vera said to her, still laughing.

"Yeah…" Jordan said, smiling even though in her mind she thought it was gross. She had never seen her mom kiss a guy before, well, the way she was kissing Leslie anyway.

"Here's your lunch sweetheart." Vera handed Jordan a plate.

Jordan hugged her mom and patted her belly. She grabbed the plate and went outside.

Today was a nice day, still a little chilly, but she could be outside without her jacket. She sat on the porch and ate her lunch. When she finished she went inside and put it in the sink. She went upstairs to get her shoes on, and her jacket just in case it got chilly later. She hugged her mom again and patted her belly, said bye to all three of them and went out the door.

She walked down the hill, then going down her old street. She looked at her cottage, and was surprised to see a black van in the driveway. Someone had moved in there. She wondered who. She continued walking down the road until she reached the lake.

"Hey Jim, there was some chick looking at our house." A twenty-one year old man said to his little brother. He was tall and thin, wearing a long sleeved blue shirt and baggy blue jeans. He also wore a fisherman's hat that just showed his chin. His name was Gregg.

His brother Jim on the other hand was just about the opposite of Gregg. He was thin, but not as thin as Gregg, he had medium length hair that was shaved on the bottom and sides, with a bit of hair on his chin and he dressed all in black.

Jim walked over to the window of what was once Jordan's bedroom. "Where'd she go? Was she pretty?"

Gregg laughed. "Yeah, she was pretty hot, she looked to maybe be you and Livia's age. She went that way, towards the lake."

"Hey guys," A young woman with blonde hair said coming in the doorway. "So, you guys gonna come with us to get some lunch or what?"

"Yeah, Georgia, we're coming." They both said following her out.

Georgia turned on the porch light and locked the door. Kaine was walking by when he saw them. Wow, some people moved in Jordan's old cottage. Cool. "Hi!" He said as he waved.

"Hi!!" Gregg said cheerfully and waved rapidly back.

Kaine walked up to the end of the driveway. "Hey, I'm Kaine, I live down the road. What's up?"

"Well, I'm Gregg, this is Jim, this is Georgia, and our friend that you can't see is Livia." Gregg put out his hand.

Kaine took it and shook it looking at him strangely. "Friend I can't see?"

"She's in the van. Don't mind Gregg, he's just insane." Jim said flatly.

"Well, actually." Georgia said twirling some of her blonde hair in her finger. "We're all insane."

Kaine laughed. "Well, that's good to know. Some more cool people moved in. It must be this cottage."

"Why?" Georgia asked, putting her hair into a bun.

"My friend Jordan used to live here. Her mom's boyfriend's your neighbor there."

"Who's the redhead chick--" But before Jim could finish talking Kaine interrupted him.

"Was she really tall, and wearing something tye dye and baggy jeans?"

"Yeah." Gregg said. "That's the chick."

Kaine laughed. "That's Jordan. I passed her; she was going to the lake. And I was going to get something for her at her house, so I better be going otherwise she'll be wondering where I went. It was really nice meeting you all."

"Yeah. It was nice meeting you too Kaine. Come by and bring your friends if you want later. We have nothing to do tonight." Georgia laughed.

"Okay, see you later then!" He walked up the hill to Jordan's house.

"He was cute." Georgia said. Gregg and Jim just rolled their eyes and they got into the van. She got into the driver's sear. Livia was sitting in the passenger seat staring off into space.

"Livia, you okay?" Georgia said.

Livia didn't answer. Georgia just shook her head and she started the car. They pulled out of the driveway and went to get something to eat.

Kaine came back to the lake with the chalice that Jordan wanted him to get. He sat down next to her. "Hey here's your chalice. Oh yeah, I met the people that are in your old house."

She took the chalice. "Really? Cool! What kind of people are they?"

Kaine looked at her funny. "What kind of people are they? What kind of people are they supposed to be?" He joked.

She glared at him, then smiled. "You know what I mean."

He smiled. "Well, they're young, well, I only met three of the four. Well, I don't know if I really met Gregg though. He was wearing this hat, and I could only see his chin… I wonder how he gets around with that thing on his head…"

Jordan laughed. "Okay, there's Gregg and…?"

"And… Georgia, she was a blonde girl, Jim, he was gothic to the core, I think he only believes in the colour black. He's cool." Kaine laughed. "Then the other I didn't meet, Livia, she was in the van. They said that we could come over later tonight because they've got nothing to do."

"How nice of them." Jordan joked. "Cool, I'll go." She got up and scooped up some lake water with the chalice. She came back over to Kaine and sat back down. "So, you think they're cool?" she asked.

"Yeah, they thought I was cool, and I know Gregg and Jim thought you were." He laughed.

"No, that's not what I meant, I mean if we're going to be friends with them, do you think they'd be cool if they'd ever find out we were witches?"

"I don't know, I just met them. From what I can tell… Jim would be the 'coolest' with it. Then again, it could be just the way he dresses. Georgia and Gregg seem really easy going, but I don't know bout Livia, cause I haven't met her. Anyway, why do you ask?"

"I don't know, they're really friendly I guess, and that Equal Evil and Great Good have me all worked up. You know I don't know if I'm cut out to be a witch sometimes." She sighed looking down.

"Don't say that!" Kaine grabbed her hand. "Don't say that, you know you have the power in you. You know that's why the Lady told you had the power in you. Everyone who's a witch, even some people who aren't... yet... have it in them."

"I know. You're right, I just feel really kinda scared right now. I mean what if we don't find the Great Good in time?"

Kaine looked at her strangely. "What? You know that we're going to find it. The Lady said so right? There's got to be something else bothering you… Tell me?"

Jordan looked at his with sadness and fright in her eyes. Then she looked back at the ground. She told him about the two dreams she had. About the beautiful athame, how everyone was cut up.  "And… the baby, my little brother or sister… was alive… I didn't think of that until now. I walked in the kitchen and the baby was on the floor babbling. Why was the baby still alive???" She looked at Kaine who had a shocked face.

"Um, Jordan… come to my house." He got up and took her hand.

He practically dragged her the whole way there, he was almost running. They got into the house. His parents were passed out on the living room couch together. The smell of beer soaked the air of the room. They went into his room. He pulled out a chest from under his bed. He opened it up and it had all his magickal tools and his own book of shadows. Then he pulled out a black velvet pouch. He took out the athame that was inside. Jordan's eyes widened so big he eyes felt like they were going to fall out of the socket. It was the beautiful athame from her dream. Kaine looked at her.

"Is this the athame from your dream?" He asked, but he knew the answer by her look.

"You're athame… You're athame… and you were the only one not at the house…" Jordan backed away from Kaine slowly.

"Where you going?! You don't honestly think that I would do anything like that?!"

"I don't know. Why would Aimery give me your athame? And you weren't there. And you still won't tell me the reason why Gram Tallulah kicked you out."

"I can't tell you remember? My parents won't tell me! Hear, take it." He grabbed Jordan by the wrist and slammed the athame in her hands. "Get out. Get out now!"

Jordan looked at the athame with widened eyes. It as in her hand. Like in her dreams. She looked at Kaine… she knew now though that she was wrong. Or it was a bad idea to blame him right now when she had no proof.  "Kaine, I'm sorry."

"Get OUT!" He yelled, not looking in her direction.

"Kaine… I really am sorry." She left, with the athame still in her hand.
