Chapter Thirteen: Voices in the Basement

She couldn't believe that Kaine's father was in a twisted cult like that, she would have to tell Kaine as soon as she could. Because who knows what danger he could be in now. Now she knew why Kaine hadn't been there though. Because even a twisted cult member has to love his own son. Right?

Kaine figured he couldn't linger on anymore about what Jordan accused him of doing. It still baffled his mind that she would even say it. He knew if he were in her shoes he would at least think it, but he would never say it. Not only because it would hurt that person, what if they were the one that did or was going to do it?  It wasn't a smart move, even though he knew he wasn't ever going to do something like that.

Since he had been invited over to visit Georgia, Livia, Gregg, and Jim he was going, maybe he could get the whole "Jordan situation" off of his mind. He put on his coat and left. His dad, actually being up and sober asked him where he was going. He told him about their new neighbors, and that he had been invited to visit later.

"Well, that's okay. Though I noticed you hanging out with those Morven girls. Don't, all right, they are nothing but trouble. Besides remember Tallulah thinks we are the scum of the earth."

Kaine gulped. "Tallulah's dead. She's been gone for months, but every time I tried to tell you, you were either going out, or drunk, so you wouldn't remember."

"The wicked bitch of the west is gone?" Stanley jumped whooping. "Then who's the new High Priestess?"

"Remember Cynthia? She's the new High Priestess." Kaine sighed.

"You're not leaving until ya tell me everything boy." Stanley smiled. "Remember, I'm sober now, and who knows the next time I will be."

Kaine laughed, even though he didn't think it was funny. He told his father the whole story, though he left out the last part to it, Jordan's dreams, the athame, and the fight. His father was happy to know that the Great Gram Tallulah or the Wicked Bitch of the West as he called her was gone.

"Can I go now?" Kaine said.

"Yeah, go, but be home… wait… it's still the weekend… never mind. Just go, there might be a party here tonight so lock your bedroom door."

Kaine walked over to his door and locked it and put his key in his pocket. He wished that his father would have parties outside or somewhere else or just plain have no parties period. He grabbed his coat and left.

He walked up to the cottage onto the porch. He couldn't believe two people were living in that little cottage when Jordan and Vera lived there, now there were four? He shook his head and knocked on the door. Jim answered the door.

"Hey Kaine! You decided to come over, that means we didn't scare you off! Cool! Come in."

Kaine laughed and came in. Gregg and Georgia said hi to Kaine, Livia just shyly waved to him. Pele came over to him and meowed. She ran in and out of his legs.

"That's Pele, Livia's monster."

Kaine laughed and picked her up and petted her on the head. She began to purr. Gregg told him to sit, and he sat next to Livia on the couch. It must have turned into a bed like Vera's because it had that same feeling to it.

They talked about things that were going on in their lives. Kaine told them how it was around here, what was cool, where everything was. Then he asked where they had come from before and what brings them to a little town like Arcville.

Gregg looked to Jim, and Jim looked to Georgia and Georgia to Livia. Livia wasn't really talking anyway, so Georgia was going to tell him why they had came here. Kaine couldn't believe what they had been through; then again he knew what they were going through a little.

"What do you guys think about witches?" He said hesitantly.

They all gave their own answer. Gregg thought they were cool, because he had dated a girl who was one. Jim thought they were cool too, because he liked the girl Gregg dated. Georgia didn't believe in most of the things witches practiced because of her beliefs, but it didn't matter. Livia didn't really give an answer, she really didn't know what to say because she had been secretly practicing it herself, and she wanted to know why Kaine was asking the question anyway.

"Why do you ask anyway?" Georgia asked if reading Livia's mind.

"Oh, because… I'm one, and I didn't know what you'd think after what had happened to you. But don't worry, I don't know any witch that does that, but you know, the stereotypes and all."

"Believe me," Livia said, the others were shocked because she was talking. "We are ones that know most of religious stereotypes, after what we've been though in all."

Kaine nodded. He agreed wholeheartedly with her. Pele jumped up from the floor on Livia's lap. She smiled and petted her little head. Then Pele's glossy body slinked over onto Kaine's lap, looking for some more petting. They continued on with their conversations. To Georgia, Jim, and Gregg's surprise Livia was talking more then they would ever expect. She felt comfortable with Kaine, especially because he was a witch. She thought it was so cool that the first person that she met here was a witch, and he seemed totally open with it. Which was kind of weird in her eyes, after what she'd been through. Maybe things weren't going to be as bad as she thought they would be. Only time would tell.

Jordan went downstairs and grabbed her coat. She smiled to everyone down there, so they wouldn't suspect that there was anything going on. She didn't want to worry anyone just yet about what Tallulah had told her.

"I'll be back soon, I'm going over to see Kaine." She put her coat on and went out the door as fast as she spoke.

Hestia looked in the spot her friend had quickly vanished. What was she up to? Something was up and Hestia could sense it right away. She looked around to the others who were oblivious to the vibes she was feeling. Her curiosity was stabbing her in the head to go and follow Jordan. She didn't know if that was a right thing to do. But she knew something was up, and didn't know if Jordan keeping secrets was a good idea right now. Especially when she is going through a tough time about the Great Good and Equal Evil. Since no one was really paying any attention to her she slinked over to the door, grabbed her coat and slipped out. As she shut the door she had just seen Jordan turn the corner down Kaine's street. She ran quietly to catch up to her, but stayed far enough away that hopefully Jordan wouldn't sense her. She hid behind a bush right in front of Kaine's house watching everything Jordan was doing.

Jordan got up to Kaine's door and knocked. No one came to the door. She knocked again, and finally she heard footsteps behind the door, then the door creak open. Stanley opened the door. He knew who she was because she had been over before.

So this is the little witch. I still think she's a little young, but hey, you have to follow what a shiny ball and a ghost say don't ya. Well, it will be all too easy for me to get into the house now. And from what Kaine told me, her mom's pregnant. Well, now that Tallulah's out of the way…

"Um, hi, is Kaine home?" Jordan said interrupting his plotting in his head.

"Hey, Jordan, no he's not here, he said something about seeing some people who moved in the place you used to live." He smiled.

Jordan's never ever seen him sober before, and the way he was acting towards her, it seemed like he knew something. She thought of the lake, just in case he could read her thoughts. She hoped she was just being paranoid because she wasn't doing too good of a job blocking her thoughts.

"Well, okay, I'll go see him there. Thanks." Jordan quickly got away, trying to make it not so obvious that is what she was doing.

Hestia ducked inside the bush so that Jordan couldn't see her. She couldn't believe that someone moved into Jordan's cottage. They must be cool if Kaine was going to see them. She also felt something really awful about Stanley. It was something very bad. It seemed to radiate a black aura around him. Then she turned her attention back to Jordan; she was going to her old house. Then it was quickly turned back to Stanley when she heard him saying something to himself.

"I can't wait till the next full moon little witch. That's when my plan I was ready to do when young Demeter was born can be finally complete. Though I planned to take Demeter, this child should be interesting." He laughed sinisterly to himself a little, and then he closed the door.

Hestia couldn't believe what she had just heard. Most of all, she really didn't understand what he was talking about. Why did he want to take Demeter away when she was born? And why does he want to take Vera and Leslie's kid? She knew she had to tell Jordan what he had said. She knows that Jordan would be mad about her following her, but this was important! She was glad now that she did follow her. She waited for a moment then crawled out of the bush.

"I don't think so little witch." Stanley said behind her. Hestia turned around quick. How did he get there? All she knew was she was in trouble now. "You didn't think that I didn't know you were there? Did you?" He laughed. "I know you heard me, and we can't let you be telling everyone my plans. Now can we?"

"I didn't hear anything." Hestia lied.

"Oh, you are such a bad liar Hestia." He smiled at Hestia's shocked look when he said her name. "Don't look so shocked. I know all about you."

Before she could make a quick dash and run he grabbed her. She tried to fight back, she even bit him, hard enough that she had drawn his blood, but he was just too strong. He pulled her into the house.

"I'm gonna kill you! You little bitch! You bit me…" He growled taking her down into the basement.

He moved a large sheet of wallpaper that seemed to have been hanging there like some sort of tapestry, but was secretly the cover to a door to another room. It was his altar room, where he did his dark rituals to his demon lord. Hestia looked around the room in horror when Stanley with only a thought lit up every black and red candle in the room. There was a long slab of marble that looked to be a table. There were four straps, he laid her down on the black marble and strapped down her arms in the two top straps, and her legs in the two bottom straps.

All she could smell is old blood and brimstone. The sickening smell was making her dizzy and nauseous. She began to scream as loud as she could. He quickly gagged her up so the noise was no more.

"Why do you have to make your punishment worse? Don't you know I hate yelling!" He lifted up his hand and smacked her across the face. "Now, since I've just woken up, and I haven't had anything to eat yet, I'll be back to punish you later."

He got up and left the room. A heavy draft went across the room when he left, all the candles went out because of it. This left Hestia alone, in a weird ritual room in the dark. She could hear evil laughter and giggling of little things in the rooms. She closed her eyes and tried to will them away, but they didn't go away. She opened her eyes to see eyes glowing back at her. Only the voices could hear her muffled screams as they began to torture her until Stanley came back to do his own torturing.
