Chapter Fifteen: The Fire

Kaine walked back into the house when he heard screaming from down in the basement. He ran as fast as he could down the stairs, but when he got there was no light, except for one candle. He flicked on the light switch to see his father standing there covered in blood.

"Dad are you okay?!" He ran over to his side.

Hestia was no longer there, and just before Kaine had turned on the light Stanley had hid the knife, so he could easily make up a lie. He looked over at his son and collapsed to the ground. Though he was still sitting up he didn't look up to Kaine's level. Kaine bent down on one knee and looked at his father's face. It was a mess. It looked like someone had beaten it in over and over.

"I fell down the stairs… I fell on my face." He faked tears that mixed with the blood down his face.

"Dad, it's okay. You're okay. I think you just broke your nose…" His words slid off when he looked down to his father's wrist. There were bite marks.

Then he heard a scream within the wall. His eyes bulged from his head. He looked over to his dad who had an irritated look on his face. Stanley knew that this meant that he was going to have to kill his own son. He didn't care. No one was going to get in the way of his plan. The one he had tried to accomplish so long ago. He lunged toward his son, but Kaine dodged him.

"What the hell are you doing dad? Who the hell's in the wall?!" Kaine yelled.

Then a thought hit him in the head like a ton of bricks. What Jordan said about his father being a crazy cult member. Jordan had been right, Tallulah was right! Kaine wished he hadn't been so mean to her, and yelled to her as he did, but now wasn't the time to think about that.

"You are in a psycho cult aren't you? You bastard!"

Stanley laughed a little. "Bravo, and how'd you find that out?"

"I've got my sources." Kaine growled. "I can't believe it. It wasn't Tallulah's fault. Even though she was a liar, she would never let anything happen to the coven."

"True, true, she was in the way of my plan. And since she is gone and Loren and Cynthia's are in charge, I'm sure I'll have no problems getting it done this time." Stanley smiled. "And now my son, you die!" Stanley went to lunge towards him.

Kaine looked down to the ground to see the dagger that Stanley was using he picked it up and went towards him. He took the handle and knocked Stanley out cold. The screaming was still going inside the wall. Kaine went up against the wall and listened, trying to find some sort of doorway. When he found the location where the screaming was coming from he slipped on the loose wallpaper. There behind it he found a door, it was locked. He used the back of the dagger and smashed the lock; the he kicked the door open. He looked to see Hestia on the marble table again. This time she was bound by wire that was slicing her wrist and ankles apart.

"Hestia!" He ran over to her and undid the wire from her wrist and ankles. "Oh my God hun!" He pulled her close to him as she began to cry.

"Get me out of here! Hurry before he comes and gets me again." Her hands were shaking and she was covered from head to toe in blood.

"Don't worry, I'm getting you outta here right now." He picked her up and started for the direction of the door.

Stanley was standing in to doorway. "Please. Don't tell me I brought up such I frickin' pansy. Then again, I had to make it seem like we were the good guys so I let you and your mom continue practicing that weak, stupid witch's religion."

Hestia held Kaine as tight as she could without it hurting. Kaine just stared at his father with utter hatred and disgust.

"Oh, don't look at me like that Kaine. You make me so disappointed. I tried so hard, so hard to try and turn you over when you were younger. Though time after time you'd fight back, and I was sick and tired of erasing your memory. You're such a disappointment to me. That's why I have to kill you and your little friend there. You know too much, and I don't want to bother with you."

"I don't think so, Dad." Kaine narrowed his eyes at Stanley. "Get out of my way before I have to do something."

Stanley laughed. "Oh what you gonna do? Call upon your Gods to help you? Your pitifully weak Gods?"

"I'm warning you. Move. Or I'll do something I really don't want to do."

Stanley just kept on laughing.

"Fine, I warned you." Kaine sat Hestia down on the ground next to him.

He held the dagger in his hand and threw it towards his father. Stanley went to dodge it, but it stuck in his shoulder and he fell to the floor in pain, knocking the one lit candle on the floor.

Kaine ran upstairs and grabbed his mother who was still asleep on the couch. She staggered asking him what was going on. He just dragged her outside and away from the house as it engulfed in flames. His mom's eyes widened and then they almost fell out of her head when she saw Hestia in Kaine's arms.

"Mom, there is a whole lot of things I have to tell you. But not right now, we have to get Hestia help."

Kaine ran over to the next door neighbors and got a phone to call the fire department and an ambulance. The fire department got there as fast as lightning, the ambulance as well. They immediately started treating Hestia.

Livia stood up quickly when she heard the all too familiar sound of the fire truck and the heavy smell of smoke tingling her nose. They ran as fast as they could up the hill. Jordan saw that Kaine's house was on fire.

"Oh no… that's Kaine's house." Jordan said with fear trapped in her voice, almost choking her words.

"C'mon, let's go." Livia said grabbing her arm.

The girls ran over to see Kaine and his mom were fine, but Jordan almost had a heart attack when she saw the sight of Hestia. The girls ran to Kaine and his mom's side. "What happened here Kaine?" Jordan said as fast as she could.

"Jordan, I'm so sorry, you were right about my father." But before he could talk to Jordan any further a police officer came over to question Kaine and his mom, Angela.

Kaine told the officer everything that he knew. About finding out that his father was a cult member, and was going to kill Hestia for some sort of ritual. He didn't know the real reason. Jordan went over to the ambulance to see Hestia. She was a mess. No one could make out what she was saying. She was in too much pain, and lost too much blood to make any sense.

Livia just stood back. She didn't get away from the problems in Florida. They were still here. Could she ever get away from all this? It was almost too much to handle. Then looking over at Hestia, she never had seen anything more horrifying in her life. Sure she saw pictures from the sacrifices and fires from her old town, but this was different. It was actually real and in front of her.

Later on in the night, Hestia was in the hospital, and Kaine and Angela were busy with the police answering questions about his father.

Jordan was in the hospital since Hestia had been there. Georgia had given her a ride there. Jim, Gregg, Georgia, and Livia couldn't believe that it was happening all over again. They decided that they weren't going to be hanging around where the police were. They didn't want to be accused again. It was too much hell to go through already. Jordan completely understood.

Jordan wished that Hestia could answer some questions about Stanley, because maybe she knew something. Then again, she didn't need to bother her with that. He was dead. Even if she wanted to ask her, she wouldn't be able to, with the painkillers the doctors had given her. She was sound asleep.

Jordan looked over to Georgia. "Hey, can you watch Hestia for a minute. I've got to call her sisters and my mom."

Georgia nodded her head and sat in the chair next to Hestia in the hospital bed. She gentle rubbed some of her butchered hair off her fore head. Georgia couldn't believe this jerk. She was so angry for some reason, but she didn't know why. She guessed it was because no one found the people that had gotten them into trouble, and this guy got an easy way out, he got to die.

Jordan went down the slippery hallway almost slipping twice until she got to a pay phone. She slipped in a quarter and dialed her number.

"Hello?" Shina asked.

"Shina… I've got some big and bad news…" Jordan said, trying to keep tears from coming out of her eyes. "Hestia, she's in the hospital."

"What?!" Shina screamed. The other girls, Aimery, Vera, and Leslie looked up from what they were doing.

"Kaine's dad, he was… evil… and he tried to kill Hestia. Kaine saved her, and she's okay… she's cut up really bad though, and he butchered her hair. My friends are here with me and their watching her while I'm calling you…" Jordan knew she sounded all jumbled up and the whole story wasn't coming out like she wanted. "Just come to St. Mary's, that's where she is." She hung up the phone and walked back to the room. She couldn't fight her tears anymore.

She felt like she was a failure. She was supposed to protect her friends. If only Kaine had believed her. This would have never of happened. She knew it wasn't his fault though. She knew the lies that must have been fed to him about Tallulah, and he was right that she wasn't the greatest source, but she knew she wouldn't lie about Stanley. She knew that Tallulah did in fact care for the girls.

Gregg walked over to her, seeing her face, and the way she was crying. "It's okay. Hestia's okay. Everything's fine now Jordan. He's dead, he can't hurt any one anymore." Jordan hugged him and put her face into his chest. He smiled and put his arms around her, trying to comfort her.

"I know, I know he's gone, but I feel almost responsible, because I knew what he was, and I tried to tell Kaine and he didn't believe me. If only Kaine had believed me, maybe this would have never happened."

Gregg shook his head, and took Jordan's in his hands. "Girl, you can't look back at the past and wish that you can change it, cuz you can't. It's happened and already done with. You did the best you could, because you didn't know that this was going to happen."

Jordan sighed and looked away from what she could see of Gregg's face. "You're right, but I can't help feeling like it is sorta my fault."

"Cheer up, soon your family and friends will be here, and most of all everyone who deserves it, is okay. So c'mon, dry up those eyes and lets go back to Hestia's room."

Gregg guided Jordan back to Hestia's room while she wiped her tears away from her eyes. Jim was sitting by the window looking down below, Livia was standing in the corner, as if she was hiding from everyone, and Georgia was still by Hestia's side waiting for Jordan to come back.

When Georgia saw Gregg and Jordan come back in, she got up so that Jordan could sit back down. When Jordan sat down she stared at poor Hestia. She seemed to be resting, but maybe she was having a nightmare. A nightmare about Stanley.

"I'm going downstairs," Jim said. "I'm gonna get something to eat out of the vending machine. Anyone want anything?" He looked around at everyone. Livia said no, Gregg and Georgia said yes. He looked over at Jordan; she was lost looking at Hestia. "Jordan, you want anything?"

"Um, no…" She said, not taking her eyes off Hestia, as if she was going to disappear if Jordan even blinked.

Jim sighed and went out of the room. While he was walking down the hall he was thinking how much a beautiful girl Jordan was, and he hated seeing any girl like this. He just wanted to run over to her and hug her.  Walking around the corner he passed Demeter, Shina, and Skrina. Though he didn't know who they were.

"Um, do you know where room 303 is?" Shina asked him.

"You're Jordan's friends aren't you? Well, I'm Jim and the room is around the corner and three rooms down from that." Jim smiled shyly. "Hestia's doing good."

They thanked him, and quickly introduced themselves as they went back from where they came to get Cynthia, Loren, Aimery, Leslie, and Vera. Jim didn't know what they were doing and was a little confused why they went in the opposite direction. He thought right, thinking that they were going to get someone. He saw the three other people coming down as he got to the elevator. He waved to the girls as they went by.

"Who's that?" Aimery said, hiding his jealousy.

"That's Jim." Skrina replied. "He's a friend of Jordan's."

Jim heard what Aimery had said, and being a guy he could easily sense the clouded jealousy sent out in those words. Was this guy Jordan's boyfriend or something? He hoped not. Then again he barely even knew Jordan, but it was love at first sight.

They all went into room 303. The girls were almost in tears when they saw Hestia. Shina told them they had met Jim in the hallway and he had given them directions to find the room. Jordan introduced Georgia, Gregg, and Livia, to them. Jordan asked if she could have a moment alone with her friends. Georgia nodded her head and the three walked out quietly.

Jordan told them the whole story on what had happened. From the strange dreams, though she left out the parts about Aimery, talking to the Lady of the Lake, to Tallulah, to Kaine not believe her, and then the fire, and what had happened to Hestia. She looked at all her wide-eyed friends and sighed deeply. It felt really good to get everything out, and it came out totally straight. She didn't want to tell them about what Aimery had done to her in the dreams, considering he was right there, and she still didn't know what it meant. She was just glad to get out the majority of everything on her chest.

"Oh yeah…" She said as she took another relieved sigh. "Kaine and Angela are being interrogated by the police I guess, they said they were going to come up here later, and I told them they can of course stay at our house."

The girls nodded. Skrina was by Hestia's side holding her hand gently seeing all the cuts, bruises, and what had happened to her hair.

"Is Stanley dead?" Demeter asked angrily.

"Yes, he was burnt to death by fire, I still don't know how the fire happened, then again I haven't talked to Kaine yet, maybe he knows. They should be here soon."

Skrina looked out the window and smiled. "Look, the moon is facing right into Hestia's window. The Goddess is watching over her." She stroked her sister's cheek as a tear fell down her own.

Vera went over and hugged Jordan tightly. "Where were you when all this happened?"

"Well, after Kaine was mad at me for telling him what I found out about his father, Livia came out because she heard us talking." She looked around to everyone in the room. "So, Livia knows about us. I don't think Georgia, Jim, or Gregg do, but she does, and she is a witch too. Anyway, we walked to the lake and talked until we smelled smoke and then I saw the house was on fire. I don't even know how Stanley had gotten Hestia…" Jordan cried once again.  Gregg wasn't here to make her feel better about it this time, she hugged her mother tight and cried.

Vera held her tight whispering to her that it was all right. Leslie came over and rubbed her back, telling her the same things too.

Jordan sat up quickly. "No, Gregg was right. This isn't my fault, right?"

Demeter looked at her crossly. "Of course it's not! Why would you ever think that?"

"I don't know, cause I think I'm a bad witch. I don't think I should be. The Lady said I had to find the Equal Evil, well he was stopped alright, but Hestia got hurt." Jordan looked away at everyone and looked down to Hestia.
