The Witch's Sacrifice
It has long been rumored that witches make sacrifices of either blonde female virgins or babies to the devil, but recent scientific studies of ancient witchcraft have come to prove otherwise.  While it is true that some covens at the time of the birth of the Wiccan religion did perform some type of sacrifice to their gods, it was most likely willing men that were "offered up".  Ancient Pagan societies based their religion highly on the nature around them.  Because of this and with it basically being more difficult to survive in that time, women and the carrying on of life were held very sacred.  To this ancestral civilization, this gave reason for the woman to be closer to the devine.  This is probably also where the main deity took on the form of a goddess as opposed to a god.

note: The practices discussed above occured in ancient times. Sacrifices, willing or otherwise,  are NOT a part of modern Wicca, Witchcraft or Paganism. While many still believe that witches worship the Devil, remember that this is a being that does not exist in the religion of witchcraft. Witches follow a path of love, Divine light and enlightenment.
