Subject: Andy's political update: Arundhati Roy special

Ladies and Gentlemen,

She's tiny, intelligent, beautiful, and eloquent. She is the Booker Prize-winning author of "The God of Small Things" as well as "The Cost of Living" and "Power Politics". More recently she has written two important and lucid essays on this war. I am a big fan of Arundhati Roy.

The two essays below have been published in major papers in the UK, France, Germany, Spain, India, Japan, and other countries. But no American paper has carried either. The NY Times, the Washington Post, the New Yorker, and many other major US periodicals have all declined to run these articles. Why?

She speaks... If you get a chance to hear her speak, you're in for a treat. A great speech of hers, called "A Writer's Place in Politics" earlier this year on Alternative Radio, is available on cassette from AR. Here is a 23 Oct interview with KPFA:

Her segment starts with an excerpt from "War is Peace" at 19:50 into the program and the interview proper starts at 23:45.
