Subject: Andy's update: 7 resources and bonus star wars section

Well my friends, here's the ninth issue, with seven resources, after nineteen days of bombing. Where will it lead? As always, pass this along if you want to, let's keep the information flowing! And if you don't want the updates any more, let me know and I'll take you off the list.

Seven web resources for alternative media

Z Magazine is a political monthly. Associated with Chomsky and friends. Critical thinking. A good resource. http://www.zmag.org

A clearinghouse of good stuff, strongly anti-war. Some parts a bit wacky, but worth a look. Also click through to alternet and indymedia. All pretty much of the same cloth. http://www.mediaisland.org

Democracy Now! in exile, as heard on KPFA. RealAudio archives. Great stuff, sometimes a bit heavy on the class struggle line. http://www.webactive.com/pacifica/exile.html

Fairness and Accuracy In Reporting (FAIR) is a US media bias watchdog. Check out their radio show, "Counterspin" (downloadable archives). http://www.fair.org

Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan (RAWA) Warning: includes some pretty strong images of violence. http://rawa.fancymarketing.net/

"The only publication in America that gives progressive Jews space to critique the Israeli Occupation of the West Bank and Gaza" http://www.tikkun.org

Even good ol' Yahoo has a classification on this debate, and it includes a wide range of opinions. It doesn't look like 96% in favor of war to me. Not at all. http://dir.yahoo.com/Society_and_Culture/Crime/Types_of_Crime/Terrorism/World_Trade_Center_and_Pentagon_Attack/Commentary_and_Analysis/

Bonus star wars section

Global military domination by the US Space Command?

I couldn't believe my eyes, but the folks at the US Air Force Space Command actually want to do this. Download the pamphlet where we're the Evil Empire. Two chilling excerpts:

"US Space Command--dominating the space dimension of military operations to protect US interests and investment. Integrating Space Forces into warfighting capabilities across the full spectrum of conflict."
"Although unlikely to be challenged by a global peer competitor, the United States will continue to be challenged regionally. The globalization of the world economy will also continue, with a widening between 'haves' and 'have-nots'... Increased weapons lethality and precision will lead to new operational doctrine."

Also check out this Counterspin program. Our new US Secretary of Defense is one of the world's leading advocates of the militarization of space.

Which is why:

20 November 2000, UN General Assembly, Press Release GA/9829 [excerpt]

By a vote of 163 in favour to none against, with 3 abstentions (Federated States of Micronesia, Israel, United States) , the Assembly adopted a text by which it reaffirmed the importance and urgency of preventing an arms race in outer space...
