The Diamonte



The Diamonte is a simple form to write. It comprises of 7 lines, each line has a distinct number of words. When completed the diamonte poem should be in the shape of a diamond when centered on the page. The purpose is to go from the subject at the top of the diamond to another totally different (and opposite) subject at the bottom, eg; from night to day.



Line 1 - one noun (subject #1)

Line 2 - two adjectives (describing subject #1)

Line 3 - three verbs (ending in -ing, telling about subject #1)

Line 4 - four nouns (first two related to subject #1, second two related to subject #2)

Line 5 - three verbs (ending in -ing, telling about subject #2)

Line 6 - two adjectives (describing subject #2)

Line 7 - one noun (subject #2)

Child

young, rambunctious

playing, fighting, tumbling

growth, change, development, maturity

achieving, working, striving

older, wiser

Adult

There is more complex version of the diamonte form which you can use to show change. Instead of the above frame you use the frame below.

Use antonyms for lines 1 & 7.

Lines 2 & 3 describe line 1.

The first 2 words of line 4 related to the noun in line 1. The last 2 words relate to the antonym in line 7.

Lines 4 & 5 describe line 7.
