Irma Parhad
Summer Studentship 2001
Term: May 1st, 2001 to July 31st, 2001
Stipend: $5000.00
The Irma Parhad Lectureship Committee has expanded its mandate and is
recruiting three students for the summer of 2001 to research and report
on problems and prospects for furthering human health and welfare, within
a framework of international law, in a significant geographic/conflict
area.
The purpose of the studentship is to prepare a dossier on a specific
topic in a particular conflict area so as to point to possibilities for
furthering human health and welfare. It is envisaged that the dossier
produced would lead to an autumn forum and possible publication and distribution
to universities, colleges, governmental and non-governmental organizations,
media, etc.
The specific topic focus for the 2001 Irma Parhad Summer Studentship
is:
What responsibilities do corporations from
developed countries have when they make investments in developing and/or
conflict-ridden countries?
The specific geographic/conflict area(s) to be selected will be based
on applicant interests, and could include such areas as Colombia, Nigeria,
Sierra Leone, or the Sudan.
This competition is open to students of any institution or department.
We encourage applications from all students, especially those seeking careers
in such areas as international law, public health, peace and conflict studies,
development studies, communications, management, and political science.
If you are interested in exploring these opportunities, please apply
