The History of the Czech Republic dates back to the end of the 5th century and the beginning of the 6th century with the arrival of Slavs in present day Moravia and Slovakia. From here on it has been a bumpy ride with great highs during the 14th century under the reign of Charles IV to the lows of the German invasion at the start of the second world war followed by forty years of communist rule. If you want the full details of the Czech history follow this link and you can amaze your friends with tales of the Hussite Revolution, the habsburg Dynasty and well as the fairy tale story of Vaclav Havel who rose from writer to president.

Our next section deals with the Country and its People. You see you are now getting the hang of things, I only have to type a few lines of general chit-chat and then I can just link you away to read up on everything from climate to education and topography to spa's. Here you will find seven pages with such interesting facts like Berlin is 282 km from Prague, Sumava is the Bohemian forest and the Czech Republic has three river basins.
I have to admit to being a bit of a cultural barbarian in fact I know more about Bruce Springstein than Dvorak. However the Czech Republic has I am told a rich history in Culture and the Arts.
This insight covers five areas of fine arts, music, literature, theatre and film with links to various museums, galleries and libraries. There is also a bit on cultural events in the Czech Republic in the near future.
Now onto something I know a bit more about, Sport. The Czech people are very keen on their sport and on the whole are a very fit and athletic people. Famous Czech's include such stars as Martina Navratilova and Ivan Lendl in tennis, Emil Zatopek from the track as well as modern day Olympic and World Champions such as Dvorak and Zelezny. In fact the Czech people are I would say are more interested in taking part in sport than just watching it and so the choice of pursuit open to you here is to say the least wide.
When visiting a new country it is always a good idea to impress your hosts and indulge in a little flattery. Every country is proud of it's successes and the Czech Republic is no different so impress the Professor at your interview with a few words about the great works of Kafka or the fine paintings of Mucha. This section on Famous Czechs is just enough to get you off onto the right footing with the locals and who know's it could help you on your road to becomming a doctor or maybe just get you a date.
This final section is designed to give  you a few links to sites of interest. Firstly there is the site of the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs which provides information about the all important Visa (This can also be found in simpler English by Clicking Here). There is a very good tourist site provided by the
Czech Tourist Board. For your Czech and International news in English try the Praguepost . After many hours of toil and sweat I have found you a list of all the Czech Embassies around the world.
Finally you may wish to contact the Czech Airlines called
CSA or catch a Train or even carry on Chatting to your friends.
