THE EMERALD TABLE

 

 

The Emerald table, here in Latin, is said to have been originaly writen by Thoth, the Egyptian god, assimilated to the Roman God Hermes.

It is the classical start of any alchemical study.

This text was hidden in a cavern on an emerald tablet, in the hand of the defunct Hermes Trimegist. Hermes Trimegist was said to be in the possession of the three disciplines of philosophy, alchemy, magic and astrologic.

 

Here is my translation of the famous emerald table, the "bible" of the alchemist

  

            1. this is true, reliable and undeniable
            2. What is above is like what is below and what is below is like what is above, to immortalize the miracles of one thing
            3. Everything come from one, and the universe was born from this sole fact by transmutation
            4. Its creator is the sun, the moon is its mother, and the wind carried it in its belly, the Earth is its nurse
            5. The father of the whole world is here
            6. Its energy in pure even if it is manifest
            7. You will separate the earth from the fire, the subtle from the gross, delicately, and with great knowledge
            8. It climbs up from the earth to the sky, and again it goes down into the earth. It receives energy from above and from below. So you will obtain the glory of the whole world, all ignorance will leave you.
            9. Here is the power, strong of all power: because it will conquer all subtle and penetrate all solid
            10. So was the world created
            11. From this, impressive metamorphosis will come forth, as the formula indicate here
            12. And so, because of this I was called Hermes Trimegist, having obtained the three parts of the whole world philosophy.
            13. What I said of the Sun Operation is complete.
