About Dr. Medway


Dr. Medway is a Professor of Psychology at the University of South Carolina. From July 1998 to August 2000 he served as interim dean of the University of South Carolina College of Education. He is an associate with the Institute for Families in Society. Dr. Medway, a graduate of Syracuse University, and received his Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut in 1975.

Dr. Medway is the author of more than 60 journal articles and book chapters. He is the coauthor of the text School Psychology: A Social Psychological Perspective (1992, Erlbaum). Dr. Medway is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association in School and Educational Psychology, and an honorary member of the American Academy of School Psychology. He is the recipient of the APA Division of School Psychology's Lightner Witmer Award given in recognition of outstanding research contributions to school psychology. He is a recipient of the JW Castine Partner in Education Award from the South Carolina Elementary and Middle School Committee for contributions to education.

He has received more than $500,000 in external grants and his work has been cited widely by the media, including Newsweek
Magazine, New York Times, Parents Magazine, Washington Times, USA Today, the BBC, and ABC and CBS News. With a
strong interest in media psychology, he appears as a regular guest on local television and radio stations, and has won awards for educational journalism and community service projects. Dr. Medway serves on the editorial board of the
School Psychology Quarterly, and as an educational consultant to numerous agencies and school districts in the Southeast including Junior Achievement of the Midlands and serving on the board of Communities in Schools of Central South Carolina.
