CELTIC WARRIORS
8th Birthday Bash
16th - 18th March 2001
A nice steady ride up the A10 to Ely on Friday, something to do with the guy up front not knowing where the Rally Site is exactly, on arrival the site entrance had been liberally strawed & soaked in disinfectant (Foot & Mouth precautions, better than the advertised spraying we were expecting.). Little John seemed to fly through on the combo (see www.bikersweb.co.uk he's the one riding sedately through the mud with young SideKick seated comfortably in the black Koi filter box (bathtub) come sidecar!! ) while the rest of us took it easy in the sticky conditions. (Ed.(Also check out the photo of Deadly, Bastard Rat in tow, sitting astride the chop warming his hands on the engine.)) We found Sumo & Kermit parked on higher ground, and tented up. Renfield demonstrated a complete lack of knowledge in his own strength, and ripped the sleeve off his leather jacket (well almost) putting in a tent peg, (Fat Git), & snapped both the leather laces in his booties. This weekend we sampled the delights of the British weather system, sun, rain, hail, sleet & snow sometimes all in the same day. Some thing else was in abundance, what was it? Oh yes, MUD, in fact a whole field of very plastic mud. Still the tents stayed dry, some campers were not so lucky. Waking up Saturday morning in the middle of a large puddle, isn't everyone's idea of fun. The bands on both nights were brilliant, I'll name but three, Roxoff, Large (funny how a big bloke like that can have such a high voice) & the ever splendid Red Eye band. The stalls provided a variety of goodies, Army surplus stall made a killing on warm clothing (wonder why?). Grub stands were good & reasonably priced. Getting Pombat out on Saturday, got us covered in yet more mud. But eh, it comes off in the wash - doesn't it? Leaving Sunday was a bit of fun, pushing the bikes the 500 metres or so in thick mud, then up over the wire fence (kindly laid flat by those concerned - thanks guys). We discovered that pushing the bikes was easier than running them - less mud thrown up & less chance of losing it in the mud. This little tip came to light when the 'Spike' man decided to be good to us & light a small fire Sunday morning, courtesy of the Bandits wiring. (Sorry Spike) Still, we got him off site, (still muttering under his breath, about reliable Japanese build quality), and he went off home with a very nice man from the RAC. Many thanks to the Brothers & Sisters of the Celtic Warriors, we had a bloody good time, thanks again for making it possible. |
