It was a quarter after 8 when I got up. Mother got the dinner while I straightened the house and got cleaned up. Dot and Bob, Mr. and Mrs. Christman, and Harriet and Bud and Charlie came about 11. Today is Dottie and Bob's 1st wedding anniversary. They liked the desk set. We were just eating dinner when Fern and Ray came. This afternoon after we did dishes we played tone poker. Charlie and I lost 19 cents. I have $14.14 in my bubble bank now. Howard, Ahleen and girls and Margaret, Jess and kids were also over for supper. We drew names for Christmas. I got Howard and Charlie - Ahleen. It snowed today - 1st time. All went home except Harriet, Bud and Charlie. We saw Margie at Paramount - very good and had hamburgers afterwards. They left about a quarter after eleven.
December 2, 1946 (Mon)
Gosh, but it was cold out today. I wore my fur mittens and boots. Miss O'Rourke was back to work today - but very grouchy. We were pretty busy all day - I had to type the labor report. Helen, Kathleen, Evie and I ate lunch in snack bar - we discussed social diseases today. I was rather tired all day. I came straight home from work today. Dad was at the garage trying to get a part for the car so we had a late supper. I called Pudgie this evening but she wasn't home. I washed out nylons, shined two pair of shoes and did a little pressing. Lucile called me this evening and we talked for quite awhile. It is almost ten and I am dead tired so good-night.
December 3, 1946 (Tues)
A tiny bit warmer today than yesterday. I was pretty busy all day. I finished the labor report, dashed to drugstore for a birthday card for Miss McCrory and figured Miss O'Rourke's checking account etc. Evie, Anna May, and I ate lunch in the snack bar - we went to Hillman's - the set of dishes I'd like for Christmas is a service for 8 at $15.95 - very pretty - now to talk Mom and Dad into getting them for me for Christmas. I came straight home from work tonight. We finally got our car fixed today. This evening after we ate and did dishes, I read the newspapers and "Better Homes and Garden." I called Pudgie, and we talked for quite awhile. I called Pat, but she wasn't home. I shined a pair of shoes and pressed a dress. Its almost 10:30 night.
December 4, 1946 (Wed)
The weather wasn't bad again today. Mother took me to the busline. We were very busy again today. I finished writing checks for Miss O'Rourke. There was another Board of Directors' Luncheon at noon today so Evie, I and the rest of the girls who serve went to cafeteria at 11:30 - ate and then served the luncheon. Afterwards we had lemon pie. It was about 1:30 when we got downstairs. I went down to Wolf and D's with Anna May after work and then home. Charlie came up about - I really wasn't expecting him and I wasn't cleaned up. Mother and I taught him how to play Flinch and we played a couple of games. We sat and talked etc. till midnight. He was going to leave at 11:00 but didn't make it.
December 5, 1946 (Thurs)
I was already for work when I got sick so I didn't go to work today. I felt pretty rotten all morning. Dr. Conley came out about noon and gave me a shot - I felt much better afte that. This afternoon I read magazines, slept a little and finished crocheting the one red and white hot pad and started the stovepad. I still didn't eat any supper this evening, but Mother and Dad went and got me some ice cream. I listened to the radio then and crocheted some more on the stovepad - have it over half-done now - it certainly looks nice. I got up and put my hair up and now it is after ten so good-night, dear diary.
December 6, 1946 (Fri)
I went to work today. The weather is still a little warm. Anna May wasn't at work today. She was absent the day after I was last month too. Our lunch hour has been changed - its from 12 to 1 now. Evie, Helen, and I ate lunch in snack bar - then I met Mother at Hillman's and she bought the set of dishes I had picked out for me for Christmas. This afternoon I took Miss O'Rourke's fur coat to Poinsette and went after it - bought Dorothy some embroidery floss and some crochet thread for myself. I took care of the kids a little while this evening. I washed my hair, shined some shoes, washed out hose and pressed a dress. It was about ten when I got to bed.

Mother called me at 6:30, and I got up and got ready to go to work. Dorothy and I worked for Mr. Brown in the Mtge Loan Dept. doing typing work. We typed all morning - worked much harder than we do in our office. We ate lunch in our office at noon and then went downtown. Dorothy did a little shopping, and I bought a pair of sachet hangers ($1.59) for the name I drew for the Mtge Loan Christmas party. I also got 2 yards of black sequins - 20 cents. Mother got me a white shirt yesterday for Charlie - $5.95 - silk broadcloth. Its beautiful. I got home about 2:30. I sewed a little on my black dress. After supper I got cleaned up and did some more crocheting on my stove pad. Charlie came about 9 and we played a few games of muggins. Charlie was here till about 1. We certainly do have enjoyable times together - just the two of us.
December 8, 1946 (Sun)
Mother and Dad got me up about 8:30. I didn't do too much this morning except get ready to go to Aunt Elma's for dinner. Mother and Dad went on out about 10. Charlie, Dot and Bob, Harriet and Bud picked me up at 11:00. We went out to Aunt Elma's and Uncle Mac's. We had just started eating when Fern and Ray came. After we ate, Harriet and I talked Charlie and Bud into wiping the dishes. We just sat and talked, and I took a few pictures. It was only about 4:30 when they brought me home and went back to N. Manchester. It seemed so strange to be home on Sunday evening. We ate a little and then I read the morning's paper and crocheted. It certainly has been very warm these last couple of days for Dec. Yesterday it was 62 degrees about. Well, its 9 and I am going to hit the hay.

This evening after we ate supper and did dishes, I ironed three blouses and a dress. Then, I got my Xmas cards out and addressed 27 - I wrote short notes to Phyllis Hite and Penny Steury. I read the paper then and took my shower. Its after 10 so good-night, diary.

December 31, 1946 (Tues)
The last day of 1946 - it doesn't seem possible it has gone so quickly. So much has happened this last year - my starting to work at Lincoln Life, my birthday party after which Charlie and I started going together, our graduation from high school, Betty Jane's wedding, Charlie's proposal, my trips to Findlay, Ohio, another to Penn. another to Cincinnati, O., Kathleen Brenizer's wedding, Charlie and my engagement, Betty Jane, Dorothy and Kathleen all expecting now and then Xmas. What will tomorrow and all the other tomorrows hold for us? A very chilly and snowy day. Mother took me to the busline. Just Miss McCrory and I were here again today. I didn't feel so hot - this darn cold is getting me down. We had a couple girls, starting this morning. I got a letter from Betty Jane today. At noon Evie, Helen and I ate lunch in the snack bar. We went dowtown. Miss McCrory was going to have me go downtown, but decided I shouldn't because of my cold so I worked crosswork puzzles all afternoon. After work tonight I went to Wolf and D's and bought a diary for the new year. This evening I felt rotten, but ironed a few things, and when I was taking a shower Charlie came - about 8:30. I finished getting ready, packed my suitcase, and sewed buttons on a dress. Charlie and I left here about 9:30. We stopped at Dot and Bob's, but they were getting ready for bed so we didn't stay long. Mrs. Christman was till up when we got there. She talked to us till about a quarter after 11 when she went to bed. Charlie and I stayed up to see the New Year come in. I had a hard time keeping him awake so we went to bed right after midnight. It was nice ending to a nice year to have Charlie holding me in his arms.
