December 1, 1948 (Wed)
Today is Dot and Bob's wedding anniversary - they have been married 3 years. Charlie got up a little after 4 'cause he thought Ray would be here early to pick corn. However he didn't get here till after 7. This morning I baked an apple pie, washed dishes, gave Mike his bath and at 9 we went to N. Manchester. I went to the locker and got some meat and to the grocery. We were home before 10. Then I dusted and swept the dining room and kitchen. Then got dinner ready - pork chops, mashed potatoes, gravy, peas, apple salad and apple pie. Ray was here for dinner. However, it had thawed out quite a bit by then so he couldn't pick this afternoon. Charlie shoveled corn off his wagon this afternoon and hauled manure out of the barn. After I got my dishes done I addressed Christmas cards. I hadn't realized it was such a big job. It was 6 before I finished. Charlie came in then before doing his chores. I cleaned eggs while he did his chores. We got a letter from Betty Jane and our egg check today. Mikey weighed 13 lbs 7 ozs. today. - the most yet. This evening while I did dishes, Charlie popped corn and then we played carrom - I beat him 3 out of 5 games. It was 10 when we went to bed . Milk check today only $27.91.
December 2, 1948 (Thurs)
Ray came down early this morning and picked the rest of Charlie's corn. He was finished by 7:30. Charlie left for Metzgers a little after 8 to butcher again today. I addressed Christmas cards from Mikey this morning. I also did some mending and wrote a letter to pauline. This afternoon I cleaned eggs, washed out some clothes for Mike and hose for me by hand. I also dusted and swept a little. I cleaned up and put my hair up before Charlie got home - it was about 6:30 when he got home. He did chores, we ate supper, I did dishes and we went to bed about 10.
December 3, 1948 (Fri)
We didn't get up till amost seven. I hurried and got ready to go to Fort Wayne. Mike and I left here a little after 8 and picked Dot and Bobby up. We got to Mom's about 9:30. Dorothy did her washing at Mom's while Mother and I went downtown. We took Mike to Kendale Studios to have his pictures taken. For only $2.00 I'll get 5 x 7 pictures of Mike at 6 mos. (now), 1 year, 18 mos., 2 years, 3 years and 4 years - pretty good. Mikey laughed in all the pictures. I hope they are good. I also bought two housedresses for Dot for Christmas - one $3.49 - the other $3.98. We stopped at a grocery store on the way home. This afternoon Mother took care of the boys while Dot and I went downtown. I bought a t-shirt for Jimmy, one for Mike and one for Stevie. I also bought Stevie a plastic book - very cute and practical, a yellow snowsuit for Mike with hands and feet in it - $7.95 - very nice, a light blue sweater for Mike and a double picture frame for Charlie and Mike's picture. Dot also did quite a bit of shopping. It was around 6:30 when we left Mother and Dad's. It was almost 7:30 when we got home. Charlie had made waffles for supper and was just eating. Goodness, but I was tired. I put Mike to bed about 9:30 and we went soon afterwards.
December 4, 1948 (Sat)
It started out to be a pretty day, but ended up kind of chilly and rainy. This morning I washed my hair, did my dishes, and washed diapers out by hand. Then I got dinner - we had barbecued ribs. This afternoon I cleaned yesterday and today's eggs. Charlie hauled manure all morning. This afternoon he went to S. Whitley and got a haircut. He also paid telephone and electricity bills and sent the last payment to S. Bend on the repairs we had done at Goers a year ago - Thank Heavens! that is taken care of. After Charlie did chores, we hurried and ate and then got ready to go to Fort Wayne. We picked up Dot and Bob and Bobby and went to Aunt Blanche's and Uncle Leon's. Marjorie, Bob and Barbara, Mother and Dad, Margaret, Jess and kids were there when we got there. Then Howard, Ahleen and girls and Bob, Jeannette and her son Jerry came soon after. Uncle Leon showed movies they had taken - they have a movie camera, projector and screen. We took the 150 ft. of colored film taken of our wedding and they showed them too. He also - had a couple cartoons for the kids. It was late before we started home and it was about a quarter of 2 when we got home and in bed. Mikey certainly watched the pictures tonight. I wore his yellow pram suit on him - its still a little big but he has most of the winter to go through yet.
Stevie is the oldest son of Charlie's brother Ray and his wife Fern.
December 5, 1948 (Sun)
It was after 7 when we got up this morning. While Charlie did chores, I washed last night's supper dishes and straightened the house up. I gave Mike his bath and we got ready for church. Dot went with us to 10:15 mass. Ray, Fern and Stevie were there too. We stopped at Bracken on the way home and left Dot off. It was after 12 when we got home. I made a pork roast for dinner. We also had potatoes cooked with the meat, gravy, apple salad, ice cream and cookies. Charlie helped me do dishes. All we did this afternoon was read the morning paper and magazines. This evening we played a couple games of 500 rum - each winning one game - it was 10 when we went to bed. Dot fell down this morning at Bracken. I certainly hope she didn't hert herself. It was an awful day - windy and rained too.
December 6, 1948 (Mon)
We didn't get up till 7 again. Mike woke up twice last night, but I had to wake him up this morning to give him his bottle. By the time I got breakfast dishes done, it was time to feed Mike his cereal and bath. He weighed 13 lbs 8 oz. today. I washed out some diapers by hand and then got dinner. Right after dinner I cleaned yesterday and today's eggs and then did dinner dishes. Charlie went to N. Manchester this afternoon and ordered lumber for a new inside stairway to the basement. All we have now is an outside one and also new wainscoting for one spot in the kitchen that is bad. While he was gone I wrapped one of Dot's, Stevie's and Jimmy's Christmas presents. Dorothy's sure looks pretty. Anyway I think so. I wrapped it in plain green paper with silver and green stickers, silver and green ribbon and silver letters that say "Merry Christmas, Dot from Betty". This evening Charlie fixed that wainscoting in the kitchen and didn't finish until almost 11. And then to bed.
December 7, 1948 (Tues)
I washed this morning and it was very nice out. I hung diapers, towels etc. and they really dried nice. Mikey weighed 13 lbs 9 oz. today. Charlie butchered at Metzgers today. I wrote a letter to Mother and Dad. This afternoon I did my ironing, did dishes and cleaned eggs. I put my ironing awhile and baked chocolate chip cookies. Charlie got home about 6:30. It was late by the time we ate supper and I was very tired so I didn't do dishes this evening - it was 10 when we went to bed.
December 8, 1948 (Wed)
Very cold this morning - 19 degrees above when we got up - I think that is the coldest it has been yet. Gosh, but I'm glad I washed yesterday. Charlie butchered again today. This morning I did last night's supper and breakfast dishes. I gave Mike his bath and he weighed only 13 lbs. 6 oz. I got a letter from Betty Jane today and then wrote her one. They were looking for us last Sunday. This afternoon I mended Charlie's overall pants, painted the new wainscoting and gave the back door another coat of paint. I also cleaned eggs and cleaned dining room and kitchen. Toward evening I read magazines. Charlie didn't get home till a quarter after 8. I put Mikey to bed about 9. I called over to Dot and Bob's and told Bob I was going to town tomorrow - he said Dot would probably want to go along. It was about 10:30 when we went to bed.
December 9, 1948 (Thurs)
Today is Betty Ann's birthday. She is one year old. I took Charlie down to Metzgers - yep, butchering again. I called Charlie's mother from there to see if she would take care of Mike while I went to town. She said Bob had taken Dot to the hospital. So I came and gave Mike his bath and got cleaned up myself and took Mike over to his Grandma Christman's. They had Bobby over there too. Bob had called and Dorothy had had a 9 lb. 11 oz. boy - that makes 4 grandsons for Charlie's folks now (no granddaughters) and gives our Mom and Dad 5 grandsons and 5 granddaughters. I guess Dot went right to the delivery room and had her baby right away. I left Mike there and went to N. Manchester. I went to the grocery and the locker for meat (including 1/2 ham). I also bought some Xmas tree bulbs, a blouse for Margaret, a romper suit and anklets for John Howard and a few odds and ends of stuff. I got back to Charlie's folks just before dinner time so I ate dinner. They had company - Floyd Weavers and 4 year old daughter Carol Sue. I was there till about 2:30. After I got home I cleaned eggs and did dishes. It was very late when Charlie got home. We went to bed about the usual time. Mike was 6 mos. old today.
December 10, 1948 (Fri)
Today was rather a busy day. This morning I did dishes and gave Mike his bath. Mother called and said she and Dad and Thelma and Orville were going to see Dot and then come out. So I cleaned the bedrooms and living room. This afternoon I washed diapers and the rest of Mike's things. Then I mopped the kitchen and dining room floors and waxed the kitchen. I also baked our ham. Charlie went to town this afternoon and got our Christmas tree. Its a long needle pine and very pretty - its big. He also bought another string of lights - we now have 3. This evening after Charlie did chores, we got cleaned up and went after Bob, took Mike over to Charlie's folks and went up to the hospital to see Dot. Mom, Dad, Orville and Thelma were there too. I took Dot up the romper suit and anklets and some magazines. We didn't get to see Johnny. Afterwards we all went after Mike. We stayed there just a little while and then they came over here. However, they only stayed a short time. It was about 10:30 when we went to bed.
December 11, 1948 (Sat)
Mike's proofs came back yesterday and they were fairly good. This morning Charlie and I decorated the Christmas tree - it looks very nice. This afternoon I cleaned eggs for Dot and ourself. Around 10 dozen for us and about 48 for Dot. Gosh, was my arm tired. Went to bed about 10:30
December 12, 1948 (Sun)
Mike caught a cold yesterday and it was worse this morning so I stayed home with him while Charlie went to church. It was after 12 when he got home. We ate and did dishes. This afternoon we just read the paper and I wrapped Margaret's Xmas present and one for Dot. Mike was better this evening so we decided to go to Betty's and Erv's. We left home about 6, but by the time we got to 114 it was so terribly foggy, we decided not to. Instead we went over to Charlie's folks. Harriet and Bud were there and Ray and Fern and Bob came later. After we ate and did dishes, we played euchre. Harriet and I played against Buryel and Fern. It was midnight before we got home.
December 13, 1948 (Mon)
This morning the darn stovepipe got plugged up and it smoked and smoked. Charlie cleaned it out and that helped. I cleaned eggs, gave Mike his bath and we ate dinner early, did dishes and went to Fort Wayne about 12:30. We took Mike out to Mom's and took his proofs back to Kendale Studios. Charlie and I went shopping then and bought Bobby a pair of dark green corduroy overalls, Suzanne a pretty yellow sweater, Johnny a pair of blue leather shoes and white anklets, Mike a couple pair of blue pajamas with gripper snaps and me two pair of nylons. Then we were broke. We went back out to Mom's for supper and left there about 6. We stopped at Betty and Erv's for just a few minutes to tell them why we hadn't come up yesterday. They want us to come up for dinner next Sunday. After we got out of Ft. Wayne, it was very, very foggy. Most of 24 and 114 was foggy, but when we got close to home it let up. We were going to see Dot and Johnny this evening (they came home this afternoon) but it got so late so I just called to find out how they were instead. It was around 10 when we went to bed.
December 14, 1948 (Tues)
I took Charlie down to Metzgers and then I came home and did breakfast dishes and Mike his bath. It was about 9:30 when I got over to Dots. Charlie's folks and Mr. Moser (working on the refrigerator) were there. Johnny is certainly a fat baby - in fact, he is the fattest baby I have ever seen at that young of age. He doesn't look a bit like Bobby or Mike. In fact, he looked a little like our Dad. I gave the baby his bath this morning. Fern, Ray and Stevie were over for awhile this morning too. Dot feels real good - she even peeled potatoes for dinner. However, just Dot, Bob and I were there for dinner. This afternoon I cleaned eggs and cleaned eggs. I didn't get quite all of them cleaned before the egg man came at 3. However I had only about 6 dozen more to clean. After that I washed some diapers out by hand for Johnny and fed Mike his vegetables and fruit. He didn't act like he felt very good today - he does have a cold. Then I washed dinner dishes. It was beginning to get late but I had to wait till Bob got home before I could leave. He bought a 35 Chevrolet Coupe yesterday. It was about 6:30 when I got home. I put Mike to bed and cleaned eggs. Charlie got home about 8. It was 10:30 before I finished doing supper dishes. Oh yes, we got a package from Pauline and Ivan - I opened it - it was a pair of pillowcases. So that means now - we'll have to buy another Xmas present. We also received a Christmas card from Pauline and a letter from Betty Jane.
December 15, 1948 (Wed)
I got up early and washed. It rained most of the day. Dot called up and said I shouldn't take Mike out today - had intended to go over there again today, but was glad I didn't have too. Charlie butchered again today. We got a Christmas card from Metzgers. Mike was very hoarse today - otherwise his cold seemed better. This afternoon I ironed and did dishes. Charlie got home about 4:30 which was very surprising. He went to Bracken and over to Dot and Bob's before he did chores. After supper and Mike in bed we played several games of carroms. It was around 10 when we went to bed.
December 16, 1948 (Thurs)
Another butchering day for Charlie. I did breakfast dishes, gave Mike his bath, put clothes away and cleaned yesterday and today's eggs. We received a Christmas card from Edna Baker and also a card from Riley Hospital in Indianapolis to bring Mike down for an examination January 6th. This afternoon I washed some things out by hand, rinsed out some diapers, put a drawstring in Mike's bonnet to his snowsuit and cleaned living room and dining room. Mr. Moser brought a tank of gas out. I put TB Xmas Seals stamps on all my Xmas cards and wrapped Bobby, Sue and Johnny's presents. Charlie came home about 6:30. Mike went to bed about 8:30. We got our milk check - $25.64 and egg check $15.38 today. Its bedtime now - night.
December 17, 1948 (Fri)
This morning we took Mike to the doctor and he gave him a penicillin shot for his cold and hoarseness. We also sent out a money order for payment on sweeper and I bought stamps for my Christmas cards. After we got home I stamped and mailed the cards out. We got cards this morning from Lucy and Bill, Dorothy Murphy (also a letter), and Ralph and Sharon Baker. Also a letter from Anna May. She says Betty Lou is going to have a baby in June. We ate an early dinner, did dishes and took Mike over to Charlie's folks. They took care of him while Charlie and I went to town. We took my good dress to the dry cleaners and then bought groceries. For Christmas we bought Charlie a pair of wool-rayon garbardine blue-gray pants and they are beautiful - $12.95 - should be. Then when he was trying the pants on, I bought him a Swank tie clip - very pretty - $3.00. I only hope he didn't see me buy it, but I think he did. We looked for me a shirt but didn't see any I like. But I did get a new nightie - its brushed rayon and so soft and pretty - $5.50. We bought Bob a pair of leather dress gloves - $4.00. We got Mike's panda out of layaway and bought him a set of blocks that rattle, a squeeze-em toy and a toy that you press the head down and it squeaks. We also did a little shopping for Dot. We got Mikey about 6:00 and stopped past Dot and Bob's then came home. It was getting pretty late by the time Charlie did chores and we ate supper. It was about 10 when we went to bed.
December 18, 1948 (Sat)
This morning I cleaned eggs up and wrapped presents for Bob, Charlie and Pauline and Ivan (we got them a dresser scarf yesterday). Charlie went after Mike's medicine at the folks and didn't get home till 12:30. We ate then and I did dishes. I washed then and ironed clothes for Dot and Bob. This evening Charlie did chores early and we left Mike at his folks and went to Huntington to confession. Afterwards we went shopping and bought me a new dark green garbardine skirt - very pretty - $4.50. It was about 9:30 when we got Mike and came home soon after. It was around 10:30 when we went to bed. We received Christmas cards from Harriet and Bud, Donna June and Herman, Betty Jane and Erv, Uncle Gene and Aunt Theresa and Mikey got one from Suzanne. It started snowing while we were in Huntington.
December 19, 1948 (Sun)
It was 7:30 before we got up this morning. Charlie did chores and I got Mike and myself cleaned up. We left a little after 9 for Fort Wayne. It was a little after 10 when we got out to Mom's. We left Mike there while we went to 11:00 Mass at St. Jude's. We got Mike then and went to Betty and Erv's for dinner. We took Sue's gift to her and she had a rubber kitty that squeaks for Mike. Erv and Sue were playing this afternoon and suddenly Mike got frightened and we had a terrible time trying to get him quieted down. Then we played a little carrom. We were going to stay for supper but Mike got so fussy we came home. It was around 8 when we got home and around 10 when we went to bed.
December 20, 1948 (Mon)
This morning I did dishes, gave Mike his bath and cleaned eggs. Charlie's folks came over about 11 and brought Bobby. They wanted to do some shopping. The snow is beginning to melt now. It was so pretty. This afternoon while I was changing Mike's diapers, Bobby split a bottle of ink on the dining room floor. Thank heavens, it was just on the linoleum and wasn't hard to clean up. Bobby went to bed about 2:30 and slept till the folks came after him at 4:30. I hemmed up my new green skirt this afternoon. Charlie went to N. Manchester and didn't get home till 6. He got the heater on the car fixed and bought plastic picnic plates for Dot and Bob and a crib circus for Johnny. He also bought me a cupcake tin and something else which I can't guess what could be in it. I wrapped Dot, Bob and Johnny's gifts then. It was late again by the time Charlie got chores done, we ate supper and I did dishes so we just went to bed. We received Xmas cards from Ray and Fern, Oddra and Bud, Aunt Elma and Uncle Mac, Howard and Ahleen and Mr. and Mrs. Don Abum and Billy.
December 21, 1948 (Tues)
First day of winter, but it was fairly warm. Dot called up early this morning and wanted to know if I could come over and help clean eggs. So I did breakfast dishes, washed my refrigerator out with soda water and gave Mike his bath (he weighed 13 lbs 9 oz again). Bob came after me then. I cleaned eggs while Dot got dinner. Bobby was over there today and between the 3 babies, we certainly were busy. Dot and I both cleaned eggs after dinner and just about had them all cleaned when the egg man came. Then we finished them and did dishes and I swept the kitchen and living floors. Bob brought me home about 5:30. Charlie had started to put the stairway in to the basement in the backroom. I guess he had some trouble with the sink though and he was still working on that when I got home. Once again it was rather late when Charlie got started on chores so after chores, supper and dishes, we went straight to bed. Mikey is learning to wave bye at people now. Today we received cards from Esther and Carl Snyder, Aunt Effie and Aunt Dessie, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Thomas and sons, Frank and Marion Layman, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bichl and one for Mike from Aunt Effie and Aunt Dessie.
December 22, 1948 (Wed)
Washed this morning - also had a little of Dot's washing to do too. Charlie butchered at Metzgers again today. This afternoon I ironed and had quite an ironing too. It was 6 before I finished. Then I did a little work on the books and put the ironing away. We received cards from Alma and Roy Gross, Jim and Millie McCrea, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Gentile and daughter, Donna Lou, Jess and Margaret, Marilyn and Kenny Pierce, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Taylor and family, Anna May and Bill, Uncle Earl and Aunt Tracy, Dot and Bob, Ray and LaVon Spriestersbach, and one fro Mike from Bobby and Johnny. It was 7 before Charlie got home. We went to bed about 10:30.
December 23, 1948 (Thurs)
Again Charlie went butchering. Mike weighed 13 lbs 10 oz. this morning when I gave him his bath. I cleaned the bedrooms and living room and was just starting on the dining room when Dot and Bob and Johnny came past. They were on their way to Ft. Wayne. Dot and Johnny are going to stay up there and come back Christmas morning when we come home. I finished cleaning the dining room. This afternoon I did dishes, cleaned eggs and mopped and waxed the kitchen and dining room floors. Oh yes, this morning I washed out Mike's snowsuit, my hose etc. I washed my hair and had just gotten cleaned up when Charlie got home about a quarter after 7. This evening the stove acted up and smoked and blew soot all over my nice clean house. Charlie cleaned the stovepipe out again - it was full of soot. So I cleaned the dining room again. It was 11 when we got to bed. We received a letter from Lucile and cards from Uncle Horace and Aunt Sula, Evelyn and Dick Corey, Mother and Dad (mine), Mr. and Mrs. Frances North and sons, Pat and Don Ensley, Myron, Wilma and Mickey Baker and Mike got two - one from Grandpa and Grandma Oliver and one from Georgia, Kay and Ruth Ann.
December 24, 1948 (Fri)
I took Mike over to the folks while we went to N. Manchester. I bought Mike a pair of yellow corduroy overalls, a white long-sleeved knit shirt, and 2 pair anklets. I also got groceries, went to the locker, got my dress from the dry cleaners and bought Charlie a pr. of work gloves and 4 colored hankies for Xmas from Mike. Meanwhile Charlie was trying to find out what was wrong with our car. I thought we would be back home by noon, but by the time the car was done and we got Mike, it was 3:30 before we got home. I baked a cake (date pudding). Charlie did his chores early and we got over to the folks about 6:30 to take baths. Bob was already there. We left about 7:30 for Fort Wayne. Howard, Ahleen and girls and Margaret and Jess and kids were already there. Santa Claus arrived about 9:15 and Mike got a toy from him. We had our exchange then and I received a pink blouse from Margaret and Charlie got a log chain from Bob. Mikey got 2 long-sleeved knit shirts from Grandpa and Grandma (one blue and one yellow) and a striped one from Marjorie. Afterwards more people came - Esther and car, Ray, LaVon, Raymie, Elaine, LaVon's brother and his wife, Roy and Alma, Hilda and Bill and Uncle Ralph. About 11:30 Charlie, Dot, Bob and I left for midnight mass at St. Jude's. For midnight mass, it was surprisingly short and we were back to Mother's by 1:15. It was late when we started for home and we got here by 4:00. Charlie and I opened our presents for each other - what we hadn't already seen and mine were a cookie sheet and mittens and 3 pr. anklets. Charlie did chores then and we went to bed about 6.
December 25, 1948 (Sat)
Merry, merry Christmas! And no snow. I woke up at 8:15 and wasn't a bit sleepy so I teased Charlie till he finally got up a little after 9. We got cleaned up then and got over to his folks about 11. Dot, Bob, Bobby and Johnny, Harriet and Bud, Aunt Letty, Grandpa Baker, Grandpa Christman and Uncle Charlie were already there. Ray, Fern and Stevie came soon after. We had our exchange then. I got a slip and 2 pr. panties from Charlie's dad, Charlie got a pr. of coveralls from Bud and Mikey got a big red wagon from Grandpa and Grandma, a long-sleeeved white knit shirt from Ray, Fern and Stevie, a red and white striped one from Harriet and Bud, a comb and brush set from Dot and Bob and a big balloon from Aunt Letty. We had dinner then Harriet, Aunt Letty and I did dishes. We came home about 6. This evening we played a couple of games of checkers before going to bed.
December 26, 1948 (Sun)
It was about 8 when we got up this morning. It was so windy and cold that we didn't want to take Mike out to church. We got dinner already and got all cleaned up and waited and waited for Betty and Erv and Sue and they didn't come. So finally at 3 Charlie and I decided to eat - it was such a delicious dinner too - baked ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, peas, corn, Waldorf salad, and for dessert cake with strawberries. Anyway we enjoyed it. We did dishes, then Charlie and I played some more checkers. About 5, Betty called and said their car wouldn't start and they hadn't been able to get to a telephone - said she would write later. This evening then we just ate a snack and then played carrom. Went to be about 9:30.
December 27, 1948 (Mon)
Gosh, but it was hard to get up early and work today. Charlie had to go to Metzgers this afternoon and help shredd. I cleaned 4 day's eggs today and had 30 dz. for the egg man when he came. We got a Xmas card from Dick Christman's and a postcard saying that Mike's picture was ready at Kendale Studio. Mike didn't feel very good today - I think he's catching cold again. I finished sewing my green skirt - that is, made the waist band smaller. It was about 4:30 when Charlie got home. This evening we played 500 rum. About 10 when we went to bed.
December 28, 1948 (Tues)
Charlie butchered today. I straightened the house up this morning and cleaned eggs. We got a letter from Betty Jane. This afternoon I still had more ironing to do and some mending. It was late when Charlie got home. And so late for chores, supper and to bed.
December 29, 1948 (Wed)
Another butchering day for Charlie. I did dishes, gave Mike his bath and was just giving him his cereal when Bob came after me. Mike and I went over there and I cleaned house for Dot. I was there till a little after 6. I hadn't been home too long till Charlie came. Again we just ate and went to bed fairly early. I called Betty Jane this morning and asked for them to come down for New Year's Eve - they seemed eager to come.
December 30, 1948 (Thurs)
December 31, 1948 (Fri)
The last day of 1948 and I hope I don't have to work as hard all next year as I did today. Charlie butchered today again. I started off the day by washing - also Johnny and Bobby's things too. Then I mopped and waxed the kitchen floor. This afternoon I cleaned the rest of the house and baked a pineapple upside-down cake for this evening and a date pudding cake for tomorrow. Then I got Mike and myself cleaned up. Charlie got home about 7 and about 8 Betty, Erv and Sue came. We ate a lunch then, Betty and I washed up dishes and then we played carroms and Chinese checkers and talked. They brought a yellow knit romper suit for Mike too. Just a little before twelve we turned the radio on to hear the celebration from Fort Wayne. Betty and Erv stayed then till after 2.
