Mets' Beltran Debacle

A contrite Omar Minaya, General Manager of the New York Mets, admitted today that he had been duped by super-agent Scott Boras into signing the "wrong" Carlos Beltran.

Last week, the Mets unwittingly signed Santa Clarita real estate broker Carlos Beltran to a seven year, $119 million contract.

"I'm sure he's dedicated to client service and I hear he's good with new homes, resales, and foreclosures, but what we're really looking for is run production," Minaya said. "I mean, we thought we were getting a five-tool centerfielder," said the Mets GM, "and then this guy shows up. Yeah, you could say I'm mad."

Through his attorney, Beltran objected to being called "the wrong" Carlos Beltran. "As far as Mr. Beltran is concerned, he is the real Carlos Beltran." It is unclear at this point whether Beltran, who claims on his website to offer a "full range of service from start to finish," will report to spring training. While the Mets consider their legal options, Carlos Beltran, formerly of the Houston Astros, is in the final stages of negotiating a five year $200 million contract with the Mets' cross-town rival Yankees, where he is expected to move to second base.  Meet the Mess
