Suggestions for the display of your exhibit.

 

Archaeologist

Remember to include a 1 page write-up on the use and importance of each artifact.  Consider some of the following questions to help you with the write-up.

  1. Who used the artifact?  High or low class, or all?  Why?
  2. What was the artifact used for?  Was it used as an everyday household object?  Was it only used for special ceremonies?
  3. Would the artifact have been used in all areas of your civilization, or would it have only been used in a few locations?
  4. Would the artifact have been considered advanced for its time?
  5. Was the artifact linked to any technological or scientific achievements of the civilization?

The archeological portion is worth 22 marks, broken up as follows:

Criteria Mark Explanation
Archaeologist Report 5 Report includes all that is required from the task.
Artifact Replica 5 each (total of 10) Each replica is detailed as best can be, uses colour, texture appropriately, is as close to original size as possible (if it is not, mention it is a scale model).
Artifact explanations 1.5 each (total of 3) Write-ups fulfill length requirement, and include information on importance and use of artifact.
Display 2 Display is eye-catching, clear, and not muddled.  Easy to read and follow.
Sources 2 Archaeologist has used significant sources from both the Internet and Library.

Historian

Remember to include a brief  paragraph on the importance of each date.  Include any background information leading up to the date, if necessary.

The historical portion is worth 22 marks, broken up as follows:

Criteria Mark Explanation
Historian Report 5 Report includes all that is required from the task.
Chronological Order 1 The timeline is displayed in chronological order.
Date Explanation 1 each (total of 6) The importance or significance of each date is explained and justified, and background information is included when necessary.
Date accuracy 1 each (total of 6) All dates are as accurate as possible (at least 2 other sources mention the same events on the same dates).
Display 2 Display is eye-catching, clear, and not muddled.  Easy to read and follow.
Sources 2 Historian has used significant sources from both the Internet and Library.

Geographer

The map for each civilization must include: LEGEND (indicating what symbols represent), COMPASS ROSE (indicating direction of N, S, E, W), COLOUR (eye-catching, creative), and a combination of 8 PHYSICAL FEATURES (mountains, oceans, lakes, rivers, etc.) and POLITICAL FEATURES (cities, towns, villages, landmarks, etc.).

The geographical portion is worth 22 marks, broken up as follows:

Geographer Report 5 Report includes all that is required from the task.
Legend 1/2 Map includes a legend.
Compass 1/2 Map includes a compass.
Location Description 1 each (total of 8) Description of each location is brief, yet informative, and interesting.
Location Accuracy 1/2 each (total of 4) Locations have been plotted on the map with reasonable accuracy.
Display 2 Display is eye-catching, clear, and not muddled.  Easy to read and follow.
Sources 2 Geographer has used significant sources from both the Internet and Library.

Biographer

Remember to include a portrait with each 1 page biography.  A suggestion for the portrait is to look at art from your civilization and use a similar style.

The biographical  portion is worth 22 marks, broken up as follows:

Criteria Mark Explanation
Biographical Report 5 Report includes all that is required from the task.
Biography 5 each (total of 10) Each biography includes accomplishments, life, death of person, as well as information on what daily life for each person was like.  Information is creative, yet informative.
Portrait 1.5 each (total of 3) Portrait is a creative, eye-catching likeness of the person.
Display 2 Display is eye-catching, clear, and not muddled.  Easy to read and follow.
Sources 2 Biographer has used significant sources from both the Internet and Library.

Peer

Each group will travel from exhibit to exhibit, and fill out a comment form, to be handed to M. McGill.  The comment form asks individuals to provide three positive comments, and one suggestion, plus a mark out of 5, on what they think of the exhibit.  1 bonus mark will be awarded, at the discretion of M. McGill, the assistant curator, based on the peer comments and scores.

There is no mark for display.  Instead, the section for each role will have a mark for display.

The following is only a suggestion for the backboard display.  You can choose how to display your exhibit as a group, BUT, you will only have 1 table, and 1 backboard to work with.
