Megan's Web Tips

Lists

Lists are great. They help you organize your data and present it clearly. In addition to the everyday ordered lists <ol> (gives a numbered list) and unordered lists <ul> (gives a bulleted list), I really like the definition lists.

The definition list tag is <dl>. It is looks like this (I also changed the font size):

Affect
Verb. To have an influence on; bring about a change in. To touch or move the emotions of. To attack or infect. Example: Smoking is known to adversely affect your health.
Effect
Noun. Something brought about by a cause or an agent; result. The way in which something acts upon or influences an object. The final or comprehensive result; an outcome. Example: We hope that this new educational program will have a positive effect on students.

This does double duty... It shows the definition tag and gives me a chance to publicize one of my pet peeves! Definitions from The American Heritage Dictionary. The source for this looks like:

<dl>
<dt> <font size=3> Affect
<dd>Verb. To have an influence on; bring about a change in. To touch or move the emotions of. To attack or infect. Example: Smoking is known to adversely affect your health.
<dt>Effect
<dd>Noun. Something brought about by a cause or an agent; result. The way in which something acts upon or influences an object. The final or comprehensive result; an outcome. Example: We hope that this new educational program will have a positive effect on students. </font>
</dl>

It's not the greatest thing in the world, but it is simple and makes a nice change from the ordered and unordered list everyone uses.
