Poetry Is Not Poetry

These are some of my "poetry is not poetry" poems that I wrote at an in-school poetry workshop in 1995.  They all follow the same form - the first line states "Poetry is not poetry."  Then the second line says "Poetry is" and then you finish the sentence.

Poetry is not poetry.

Poetry is

a willow tree

Swaying

in the night wind.

Poetry is not poetry.

Poetry is

a pink carnation

Swaying

back and forth on a hill.

Poetry is not poetry.

Poetry is

a princess

singing

into the starry night sky.

Poetry is not poetry.

Poetry is

the tallest mountain

capped

with snow.

Poetry is not poetry.

Poetry is

a pink and purple

sunset fading

into the night air.
