Housing
A Chinchilla proof cage is something every owner must have.  Chinchilla's have been known for getting their tiny feet caught in the wire of cages, so a cage with 1/2'' x 1/2'' wire flooring is a must.  Anything bigger and you pose the risk of having their feet caught in the flor of the cage.  The side and the tops of the cages can have bigger spacing, 1/2'' x 1 1/2'' is a good size spacing.
Size of  your Cage
The size of a cage varies from person to person. I prefer to keep my single animals in nothing less then 24x24x24 with additional space for more animals.  I feel that bigger cages are better, as it gives them more room to run and jump around. Since chinchilla's like to jump, something that is higher then wider is normally preferred.
Housing More then one Chinchilla together
This is one of the more common concerns. Many people seem to be affraid of keeping more then one chinchilla together in same sex pairs, often thinking they will fight until the death, especially in males.  This, in most cases is a myth. Same sex pairs can and do get along. Sometimes, they'll actually get along better then male/female pairs!

As with any pairs, including male/female pairs there are risks. However, I personally have had good success with keeping both same sex male pairs, and same sex female pairs together. I do reccomend this over jumping into breeding, especially if you aren't prepared for the heart ache of breeding.
