Hazards in the Home
There are many hazards found in the home. To prevent your chinchilla from getting seriously hurt or dying, you must make sure to keep all electrical cords off the floor, and out of reach. Toliet seats should be kept closed as chinchillas can jump into the toilets and drown. Any and all chemicals should be kept away from chinchillas as well.
Miscellaneous Information
Dust Baths should be given 2-3 times a week. Water baths should be avoided, as chinchilla's aren't meant to get wet, and are hard to dry

Quarentining new animals when you bring them into the home is very, very important. No matter where you get your new pet from, and no matter how good the breeder is it should be placed into quarentine.  To properly quarentine you need to keep the new chinchilla in a different room, away from any of the animals you have. You must wash your hands before and after handling the new chinchilla.  Chinchilla's should remain in quarentine for atleast 3 weeks, preferable 4-5 weeks. This insures that you will not be bringing any illnesses to your other pets.
Think about it ...is it easier to treat one animal or multiply animals?
