A Greek Classic
by HOMER [c. 850-900 BC]
Translated by Samuel Butler
One of the inevitable Epics from Greek Mythology has got to be this one: THE ILIAD, by HOMER. It is fascinating indeed to read and enjoy such poetic literature, based on true facts hidden in the darkness of that remote Past which we will never have access to anymore. Yet, THE ILIAD remains as a hint to the events which were recorded by HOMER after generations and generations of retelling and reshaping. But, even though the story or narrative itself came to HOMER in a figure of its own, it took HOMER to be the one to crystallize it into such beauty and poetic verse. This version is perhaps the best known. Join in, then, and enter again the Greek world through the eyes of a great and enduring Greek Poet.
