The History of Kudo Shinichi's Strange Journey
The story so far : Seventeen year old Shinichi Kudo has been growing famous around Japan since he started helping the police solve cases. His friend(actually girlfriend, though neither will admit it) Ran Mouri is getting concerned about these cases, even though Shinichi is cutting down her father Kogoro's detective business.
On one particular day, Shinichi is taking Ran to Tropical Land, an amusement park that he promised to take her to when she won her karate tournament. As they wait in line for a roller coaster, Shinichi is boasting of his idol Sherlock Holmes, and telling Ran how he would solve cases by deduction of evidence, illustrating his point by grabbing another woman's hand and saying that she was in gymnastics. Before the ride starts, however, two men dressed all in black push their way onto the car. A murder occurs as the coaster goes through a tunnel, and Shinichi proves who murdered the man as everyone including the police watch.
Later, Ran is crying over the developments of the case, and Shinichi is trying to console her(and not doing a good job of it) when he notices one of the men dressed in black running into an alleyway. Not liking the looks and feel of these two as he was solving the murder, he follows the stranger, leaving Ran, who has a promonition that she will never see him again.
As he is spying on the man that he followed meeting with another man who appears to be a businessman and has a briefcase filled with money, Shinichi is caught by the other man(Gin), who knocks him unconscious. The businessman runs away, and Vodka comes running up, pulling out his gun to finish the detective. Gin stops him, and pulls out a small case containing capsules of an unknown toxin. He forces one down Shinichi's throat and gets him to swallow it, saying that this will kill him and leave no trace of the poison, even though it's never been tested on a human before. As the two men run off, Shinichi, who had heard some of what the men were saying, starts to gasp in pain as the pill takes effect. Thinking 'My body feels like it is melting... Hot...', he blacks out.
Some time later, police find a body behind the park, and call for an ambulance. Shinichi wakes up, finding out he is not dead and thinking that the toxin had no effect, when what the policeman is saying shocks him. "Are you all right, boy?"
'Boy??' Shinichi blinks, and looks down at himself to see his clothes are way too big on him now. Knowing that he needs to find out what is going on, he escapes the police, and runs to his house(finding out when he sees his reflection in a window that he has shrunk and now has the appearance of a seven year old), only to run into his neighbor and friend, Professor Hiroshi Agasa. After persuading him of his identity, Agasa lets him into his house, and is trying to help him figure out what happened, when Ran lets herself in. Finding his father's glasses just as she spots him(and poking out the lenses because they make him dizzy), he is able to fool her and give her a false name from some of the books in his father's library - Edogawa Conan
Thus begins one of the most interesting and really funny shows to come lately out of Japan. Shinichi as Conan solves cases, though since no one will listen to him now that he is a child, must give his credit to Kogoro, whom he is staying with as he also works on leads to find the men in black who made him a child for the antidote. He has to go back to elementary school as an 'exchange student'(though he was in second year high school...), and sort of forms a 'Detective Boys fan club', consisting of Ayumi, Genta, and Mitsuhiko(who actually started the group even though Conan solves the cases), and then later, Haibara Ai.
