8. Moholoholo Animal Rehabilitation This Animal rehabilitation center is where endengered, wounded and generally confused animal species are looked after. Hopefully some of them make it out again into the wild. You should hear the stories the Center director Brian told us about how man is gradually destroying the natural habitats of most of our wild life. For example the totally confused Black Eagle, who while she migrated to north america, had her natural habitat destroyed (these eagles have a special gland on their body that allows them to home in on the exact same spot in between continents), on her return to Africa she could not find her territory, later she is attacked and wounded as she ventures into the wrong territory by another Eagle; or did you know that different species of vultures play different roles as scavengers of the wild ? The Lappet Vulture specializes in opening up the carcass for the other vultures to feed and when they are all done the Wide Cape Vulture really picks deep into remaining carcass cleaning out the bones. Now they are been killed off by poisons laid by local farmers. 10/21/2001 |
