Information
LAO People's Democratic Republic is celebrating the 25th Founding Anniversary on December 2, 2000, On this auspicious occasion I feel extremely honoured and delighted to convey the warmest greeting from the LAO people to the fraternal INDIA people.
LAOS and INDIA have been closely bound by similar history, culture, tradition and linguistics from the time immemorial. Both the Mekong and Ganga River Basin areas have been centers of our civilization for thousands of years. The two countries supported each other during the struggle against colonialists for their independence and freedom in the first half of the last century. In the period of the struggle against neocolonialists, especially during the Indochina war, as well as in our present day of the National Reconstruction Laos has continuously received valuable morale and material supports from India. It is noteworthy that the relationship between our two countries has grown satisfactory and substantially. Since both countries established the Joint Commission Meeting for economic and cultural cooperations in the last few years the bilateral co-operation becomes more active: in the last three years around 100 young lao specialists participated in the IT training courses in India and more than 10 students currently study in the different colleges of Delhi, Bangalore, Varanasi, Dehra Dun etc… INDIA extended 2 millions US dollars softloan to Laos for setting up the water-pumps and Engines reparation workshop in Vientiane Municipality. I feel privilege to mention that during the visit of H.E. Jaswant Singh Minister for External Affairs of India to Laos on 9-11 November 2000, Laos and India joined along with Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam the Mekong-Ganga Co-operation Project, which aims at enhancing co-operation in the fields of tourism, culture and education and will create new atmosphere for further bolstering economic co-operation between this two subregions in the New Millennium. I am fully convinced that the friendly relations between two peoples will flourish amicably and economic co-operation of our two countries will be fruitful and beneficial to our both peoples. I wish all Indian people as well as government of India for their new success, happiness, prosperity and personal well become.
