Wood and tile flooring

Chuck Petersohn starts work on the three bathrooms, tiling the shower walls and the floors with ceramic tile.  We use an 8 X 10 on the downstairs shower walls, with a highlight stripe at about eye level.  12 X 12 floor tiles are placed diagonally.  Chuck does great work and has been doing tile jobs for us since 1989.  I wouldn't use anyone else.

"Planet Hardwoods" begins installing the wood flooring.  We go with a 3 1/4" birch floor and will leave it natural.  I like birch for its light color, nice grain, color stability (won't get darker and darker like oak), great durability, and excellent stability (won't expand and contract a lot, like maple).

We add a few highlights to change the feel of two areas.  In the entry hallway, a walnut highlight is added to help widen the feel of the passageway.  The dining room also gets a highlight to help the room feel a bit more formal.

Once the floors are laid and sanded, Planet Hardwoods will apply three coats of a water based finish.
