Back in the dirt
As we framed the back entry "boot room", we realized that a supporting column that carries an exterior wall and roof load did not have any corresponding column in the foundation. We poured a new concrete pad in the crawlspace, installed a double microlam in the floor and inserted a steel column to carry the load between the two. Neither designers (us) or our engineer noticed this deficiency in the plans!
Since they are repaving the street, it made sense to get our gas line tap installed while the street was torn up. The utility crew spent about a half a day running the gas line to the house from the main under the street.
Time for floor joists! The front (north) wall of the house is broken by the turret which juts out further north. To establish the exact placement of the floor joist in the turret, a string line is used. The joists are poked up onto the top plate and nailed into place.
