Roof Odds and Ends

The back door has a single story boot room with a low pitched roof.  The roof rafters are stick built, not trusses.  The rafter tails are cut vertically for a 2X4 sub-fascia and the bottoms are cut flat, flush with the top plate, for a horizontal closed soffit.  We will repeat this style throughout the roof overhang.

LS-90 field adjustable braces insure good rafter to rafter connections.  Hurricane clips are required by the local codes to tie the rafters to the top plate, protecting against wind generated uplift.

The east gable lookouts, barge rafter (or flying rafter) and sub-fascia are completed.

Where the main roof transitions to a shorter, smaller gable end we must add sheathing and eventually an overhang and siding.

The west gable trusses meet the main roof trusses, but need a transition to maintain the high ridgeline.  This jack valley truss is constructed using ordinary 2X4s and mending gussets.  It will be over framed on top of the main roof trusses.  When I find the correct field adjustable hangers for a 10/12 pitch, I'll show you where this fits into the west gable framing.
