Porch roof finish framing and driveway culvert
The porch roof framing is finished and the roofers return to apply sheathing and tar paper. Some misc. small jobs are in process: installing the front door slab in a jam, finishing the back deck framing, installing the back deck porch posts, placing some reinforcing steel brackets, setting a drop for porch ceiling beadboard, reworking the prototype window to include a molding return, and general site cleanup.
A 24 foot long, 18" diameter pipe is laid across the front of our property to form a driveway culvert. The culvert will pass eastbound water from the ditch that lines our side of the street. We carefully dig down a couple feet so as to not disturb the water or gas utilities. The pipe is bedded with 3 tons of squeegee (3/8" graded rock with some small fines) and buried. Flared ends are attached and rock is placed to stabilize the soil around the end.
The porch roof adds a much needed skirt to the front of the house. Its nice to eat lunch outside, but out of the sun.
